Can't It Just Be July 32nd?

We're really not ready for it to be August already.  The summer is passing by far too quickly.

We met up with Jill and the kids yesterday evening to watch Jake play a bit of soccer.  It was a lovely summer evening and Jake was playing on a field next to the kids' old high school, here in our neighborhood.

Jill and her kids had finally dragged themselves out of the house in the late afternoon after several days of lazing about watching Olympics and staying up late.  The kids were ready to go back home.

We hadn't seen Jake play for many years, and decided we could put the Olympics on record and watch the evening show without commercials later on.

Jake is a defender and plays on several teams.  This is a co-rec league, with no slide tackling allowed.  It's safer but leaves fewer means of defending.

Here is a series of shots of the big guy in action.

And with that the ball is launched up field.

We left in the second half after Jake subbed himself out.  It's a lot of running after being on his feet all day at work.  He stopped by the house later to drop off clean cabin sheets, pick up raspberries, and pet his kitty.

And now about that August thing.  It is the first day of the last summer month, and for us it will be a busy one that will fly by too quickly.  We do have another week mostly at home before there are short trips to Rockaway and to Whidbey for family events.  And then the the big house remodeling projects will be getting under way.

Tom is finishing up the big yard jobs. Today he'll cut out the old raspberry canes and do the clean up there, and that should be the last of it.  I am back to walking at least 3 miles a day, plus doing my floor exercises and hand weights.  The Olympics are a good influence, except that we also spend a lot more time sitting and watching TV.

So here we are in the dog days of summer.  I'm hoping for some busy mornings - I have to start packing up everything in the downstairs rooms, besides the normal home and garden chores - and some slow afternoons in the sun.

So does Jake have a job, now? If so, I want to congratulate him. It is a step in the right direction.

August will be a fun month for you and your family. Enjoy!

After every post I think your family cannot cram anything else into your busy schedule but you always manage to squeeze in one more thing.

August does feel different-the air is somewhat cooler...finally for us!

At the end of January, I notice the light has begun to increase. At the end of July, it's the light beginning to fade, just a bit. But we still have August! My favorite summer month...

You are right! It cannot be August already. I had so many plans for this summer which are put on hold until next summer (I hope).
Sometimes it seems there is not enough time to do all we want to do. I just hope I heal well.

I agree - summer is going way too fast! I actually picked a gallon of raspberries today, but they are definitely on the wane. And yes, the days are starting to get shorter already. :(

I had the hardest time trying to figure out the significance of July 23, a mild dyslexic moment. I love the kids with grandpa picture.

Fun pics of Jake's soccer game! I know what you mean, summer IS almost over. It feels like we haven't really done anything, yet.

Hope that you have a fun weekend,

Kathy M.

Those are great action shots.
I am so glad someone is unhappy summer is closing down. It has been brutal here and we can't wait for fall.
I have been just as housebound as if there had been roof top snow on the ground.
Enjoy your great days and please post about them like this so we who are not so fortunate know that somewhere, all is normal. It is a comfort.

I did the raspberry canes yesterday. Already we have used up all our crop in our evening smoothies.

I so enjoy reading of all the wonderful family memories you are creating! Our summer is flying by here...an unusually humid and hot one for New England. I have been laid low since June's knee surgery and won't get much crossed off my summer to-do list this year...but maybe this fall....

The summer is sure flying by. I've found myself lately somewhat busy and having a hard time getting things done. I'm always so amazed at what you get done all the time. You and your family have an inexhaustible supply of energy.

Jake is so amazing. It's amazing to see him in action after his operation too.

As one who still must return to the classroom, I dread the first day of August! Suddenly, it seems like summer is gone in the flurry of back to school planning, reading and preparations!

However, I still will manage to grab a few days here and there for the things and people I love!

Great action shots, by the way!
