Good Pickings

We're in a rain and shine pattern here in the Seattle area.

It rained over night and early this morning.  Now in the middle of the afternoon It's almost clear and warming up to 72, and muggy.

I got outside for a while this morning to do some planting and grooming, including dead heading the roses.  And of course I picked a few for the kitchen table.

Just before coming in for my 1:00 lunch hour I found something else to pick.

Our strawberries are few, but all the sweeter for being precious.
The raspberries are just coming on.  I'm looking forward to a big bowl full by the Fourth of July.  Yum.

It's time to go back out and find some more snipping and grooming to do.  We have to make hay while the sun shines.  I think Tom is on a ladder somewhere, starting the hedge pruning.  That's a job we love to have finished.  But that will take some time and hard work, as we dodge showers.

  1. I've been picking strawberries for over a week now. We have a LOT of raspberries, but none of them are ripe yet.

  2. I remember last year how hard it was to do all the hedge trimming. We're having rain off & on every day also with temps in the high 60s. Now the sun is out & it's beautiful, 15 minutes ago it was pouring rain.

  3. Oh yum! I'm so envious! We've just returned from Vegas where it was 102 degrees with very dry heat that had our noses bleeding. I think the northwest is a lot more comfortable. Your flowers are so beautiful.

  5. we would love a little rain here in the desert-maybe in July as it heats up more, the monsoons start...

  6. We have started strawberry season here in VT--so short, but so precious. We are having lots of rain lately. The weeds are loving it--and the mosquitos. I am spending far too much time indoors.

  8. The flowers and berries are beautiful! It got me scurrying up to my garden to look for raspberries. None yet for me, but some are starting to get pink around the edges.
