69 Is Just a Number

Funny how "old" keeps moving.  There was a time when I thought 50 was old, then 60.  Now I'm pushing it to at least 70, because I'm not quite there yet.

Sixty-nine is just another number.  It just so happens to be three times the age I once thought was the ideal age - 23.  But no more. At least for now I'm happy to be what I am, 69 tomorrow, on July 17th.

And not quite old yet.

We'll be going to Whidbey Island for my birthday, where we will meet up with Jill and the kids, who are already at the cabin.  I baked my own cake today.

Do you think it looks chocolaty enough?  It's chocolate zucchini cake under that glaze: chocolate on chocolate, just my thing.

This may be a little hard on the weight loss plan.

  1. You only turn 69 once! That cake looks perfect, Linda, and I know you will make up for it later. I will have a celebratory ice cream for your birthday, too. Happy, happy birthday, dear friend! :-)

  3. Well, a very happy birthday. Yes, they're all just numbers but they keep getting bigger.

  4. Happy birthday. I agree. 69 is just a number. I will be there in February, so let me know how this number feels in about six months. I'm ok with it. I think that 69 is quite young. I no longer think in terms of numbers such as these. I find if I focus on doing things that help me think youthful thoughts, I do better. I do hope your birthday is spectacular and that enjoy every single bite of that cake.

  5. We once had a neighbor who told Bob when he turned 80 just to shoot him. The morning of his 80th birthday Bob took my dad's rifle and knocked on his door. When he opened the door Bob reminded him he'd told him to shoot him when he turned 80. Suddenly 80 didn't seem so old and Joe wanted to keep living.

  7. My mouth is watering! Happy, HAPPY birthday, Linda. You and Art are almost the exact same age. Have a wonderful celebration. It just boggles my mind how many things we have in common. At 69, you do more than many 23 year olds and better as well.

  15. Happy birthday, Linda! I used to think anything over 60 was, well, really old. Today I got my Medicare card in the mail and I am thrilled, just thrilled. Nothing like perspective!

  16. Happy birthday! What a nice place to spend your birthday. I had my 69th birthday earlier this month and didn't realize it was even my birthday until about 2 p.m. when Ron remembered. We've managed to forget nearly all of our 29 wedding anniversaries also. We're not much for tradition around here, obviously. :)
