Sometime Life Smacks You in the Face

Maybe there is a message for me in this.  Maybe I need to slow down.

Or maybe it was just that step onto a muddy sidewalk at my aerobic pace, while on my way to the park, that was my undoing.  Maybe it's just as simple as that.

I couldn't stop my fall.  There was nothing to grab.  I landed in the mud, hands and face down, and smack, I face planted in the mud.

I didn't see stars, just blackness, as I lay there not yet moving, assessing my state of being.  Then slowly I rose, found a tissue in my pocket to wipe the mud off my crocked glasses, another, cleaner one to wipe my face and blot the blood on my forehead, nose and wrists.

I began walking home, about five blocks, and decided to have a look at the damage by using my phone.

Warning:  these are not pretty selfies.

On the street-

 Once I arrived home-
And after I got myself cleaned up and iced my head for 30 minutes.

Tom was over at Jill's house with the hot tub guys.  Once he checked in with me, I sent him these photos.  He said he was on his way.

Meanwhile Josy kept me company.  A purring kitty on your lap is very comforting.
I'm doing OK.  I iced a couple of times, took some ibuprofen, and am dealing with a low grade headache and some kind of shaky legs.
This will not look good in the morning.

  2. There is nothing like a fall to slow a body down. Glad you're okay, though bruised.

  3. You should not sleep more than a couple of hours at a time...you probably have a concussion. You could also have a fractured skull...have Tom keep checking your pupils to make sure they are equal. If you get real sleepy and cannot stay awake you need to go in right away. The swelling can be just as much inside your head as outside. A fall that hard and your neck and back should be checked too...just a few suggestions from an old EMT/ Fireman :(

  4. Oh No, Linda! That looks so painful. I fell once a couple of years ago on some stairs and smacked my nose, but there was no blood. I can imagine how much this hurts. Please let us know how you are tomorrow. Good thing you had a purring kitty to comfort you.

  7. Oh my gosh! What a bump on the noggin you have! Bless your heart! That had to hurt, and yes, it will look worse in the morning. Take it easy the next day or two and watch for signs of a concussion. At least your glasses did not break, but oh what a knot on your forehead. Take care and let us know how you are feeling.

  8. So very sorry to hear this. But do check if you have any pain when you deep breathe or laugh . I fell like this once, and found out 4 days later that I had cracked a rib. So please see a doc and make sure. Hope you take lots of rest and that there is fast healing.

  9. Now that was a fall! I read all the previous comments, and the only part that really concerns me is that forehead bump. It's HUGE and looks to me like it should be looked at.

These days, our cellphone cameras are turning out to be something more than just for fun: you could have used it for a rescue! Thank heavens you didn't need that.

  11. I'm very sorry to hear that you had a nasty fall. When we fall we just seem to not be able to help ourselves and stop or lessen the fall.
I'm not going to say I like your self portraits but they do show the evidence of your fall.
Now don't let a fall take away your confidence and life. Get out there again and go as hard as ever. One of the things is confidence. Don't lose it.
I hope you soon recover and that we see the big smile again.

  15. Oh my goodness! That looks just terrible and very painful. I will add my second to advice you have been given. I know you will be cautious and monitor your symptoms. Take the head injury seriously.

I hate these falls. I think the worst part is how shocking it is to fall. I fell last spring while walking to my car. I still have no idea how I fell. I was upright one moment and on the ground the next. I know I didn't lose consciousness, but everyone kept asking me if I did. I think I caught my heel on something. Any idea how you fell? Take care Linda.

  17. Gravity can really make the earth smack you in the face quickly. Been there and done that.
That is one nasty bump on your head. Do monitor that for any head injury can be problematic.
