Mother's Day Weekend

Saturday Tom and I had grand kid duty, while Jill was off instructing a Mountaineers scrambling class.  Tom took Irene to gymnastics class and made a run to the hardware store.  I dropped Isaac off at the Lacrosse field and went to find a Starbucks.  Extra hot latte and banana bread in hand I returned to the field to watch Isaac's team play.

The sky to the east looked threatening, but that was someone else's worry.
The sky to the west was bringing us fair weather.
It was well after noon before got back together for lunch.  Then it was project time.  The kids made glass flowers for their yard to give to their mother.  Isaac really didn't want to do this until he got started.  Then he really go into it.  Irene was on board from the start.  They each made four beautiful creations.  Then Grandpa applied the sealant to glue them together.

(Irene wants you to know, parenthetically as she suggested, that she picked and arranged the flowers you see here which were destined for the kitchen table)

There was some screen time, of course, and some playing store where I played several customers and some silliness.  After dinner I wanted to take a photo of the two kids for a photo card for Jill.  That took some doing. I already ditched the ones with tongues sticking out and eyes crossed.

Isaac decided this one was acceptable.
Tom and I got a rhubarb cake made while the kids watched TV. They went home about 8:30, I got the photo card done,  and then I sank into my chair.

Sunday morning we had time to read the paper and enjoy some time on the deck in the sun with the fragrance of wisteria lofting about. Then we set to work on our check list: setting the table and prepping the food.

I set the table with dishes that belonged to my mother and an embroidered dresser scarf from my grandmother.

Jill and the kids and Jake all arrived just before 3:00, in time to watch the Sounders match on TV.

Unfortunately the Sounders trailed 4-0 at half time and we abandoned watching the rest of the match and moved outside. There was sitting in the sun and visiting and playing.

We precooked the ribs in the oven and finished them up on the grill along with the asparagus.

There was fruit salad and oven roasted potato wedges to complete the dinner, with rhubarb cake for dessert.
We enjoyed each other and good eating.
.It was a good Mother's Day weekend.

  12. It looks like it was fantastic. The glass flowers are just great. Where did you get all those glass pieces. My daughter gave me one of these creations a few years back. She had purchased her creation.

  16. Oh my, you can never come to my house and see my pathetic excuse for crafts or have to eat on the porch on paper plates. You really do things in an elegant way. Please tell Irene she can arrange flowers for me anytime!

  17. Irene is becoming a wonderful florist!
The glass flowers are beautiful! I have been collecting glass and will have some in my yard soon...still too cold here to be outside for very long. Only about 40 degrees today and a damp cold.
