A Whidbey Walk

Last Thursday at the Whidbey Island cabin, with the work done and the tulips visited, I went for a walk up the hill above Useless Bay.
A view of Useless Bay and Double Bluff from the top of Sunlight Beach road.
Across the road, on Homestead Ave., sits the old homestead farm house.
I headed down Bayview Road to see what I could see.
An old holly farm, still producing.

The roadside  brush includes salmon berry
and elderberry.
Big leaf maple flowers
I walked down into this upscale housing development to see a different perspective of Useless Bay and Double Bluff.

Retracing my steps, I cut through Sunlight Shores at the top of the hill.  I was struck by the color here.
Then I took the gravel path down through the wetlands to get back to Sunlight Beach road.
The red winged blackbirds were singing their lovely song.

Back at the cabin, I checked out the beach, which I had all to myself.
I did have some company in the lagoon: a flicker on an old piling,
my favorite bird, a belted kingfisher,
and some dabbling ducks, green winged teal.
It was a good walk.
