My Labor Day Labor is Done

With the work done here on the home front, today I dedicated my time to preparing picnic food for tomorrow.
Chocolate zucchini cake and potato salad will be my contribution to the picnic tomorrow on Whidbey Island. It's Labor Day weekend and time for the Annual Phosie-Gertie Family Picnic.

For those of you who are new to this blog or don't remember, follow the link above for a review of last year's function.

It looks like the weather will be cool (chilly) with a slight chance of rain, ironic after such a long hot summer.  I guess it will help all those kids and teachers who have to go back to school to not feel so bad.  Time to move on.

But before we head to the island tomorrow morning, we have another Sounders match to go to this evening.  All of the rest of the family has bailed on the match and are already gathering at the cabins.  But we are diehards, who never want to miss a match, and besides, there will be plenty of time for togetherness Sunday and Monday.

I hope your holiday weekend is an enjoyable one.  May your labors be slight and your pleasures be many.

  1. The cake and salad look great. No picnics here or Soccer games but we are headed to the neighbors for supper:)

  2. I've been thinking of the Phosie-Gertie Reunion lately and wondering if I missed it this year, if I simply wasn't invited, or if it had been cancelled. So glad to know it is none of the above. I'll be there vicariously, although I'm neither a Phosie nor a Gertie. Have a great time! 😄

  7. I now feel like I'm part of the family, since I have now "visited" several Phosie-Gertie reunions. I look forward to this one, too. Your food looks incredibly good, but I know you're quite an accomplished cook. I saw the picture of Facebook already. :-)
