Super/Blood/Eclipsed Moon!

The sun was down and the color had just left the mountain top when we gathered along the shoulder of a neighborhood street overlooking the Kent Valley.

Because it was not yet dark here in the Pacific Time Zone, we had trouble finding the already earth shadowed moon through the horizon haze.
It was just a ghost that my camera had trouble focusing on.
As the sky got darker it became easier to see.
And finally, as my camera shutter slowed WAY down, it could capture the red of the blood moon that our eyes still couldn't really see.
Without a really heavy tripod it didn't take much to blur the moon or jog the path of a passing airplane.
It was getting cold but we stayed around long enough to see the shadow begin to move and the moon's true color begin to show on the lower edge.
Cool stuff!

  1. We went out at the height of the eclipse to get a look at it too. The brightness along the lower edge was just starting to show as the Earth's shadow moved off it. What a cool happening! I'm so glad we got a clear night to see it. Thanks for sharing your pictures. I didn't even try.

  2. Very nice photos. We missed this spectacle because we were in a concert hall at the time.

  3. Excellent photos! The moon started to eclipse here around 10:30, so I had to take a little nap first.

  4. I didn't try to photograph it, either, but I love your pictures of it, Linda. A friend went all the way to Artist Point to photograph it, but it was so cold that they almost wept from frustration. They had to wait for the moon to rise above Mt. Shuksan. :-)

  6. Glad you got some pictures. Not me. I did see it though. Clear skies here and less light out here in Eastern WA. Thanks for posting these.

  8. At least you got to see the eclipse and get some good photos. I remember the first eclipse I saw. It was a crystal clear evening and I watched every second of it.

  9. Wow, Linda. You did a great job capturing photos. I didn't even try to capture anything with my camera. Jim and I took a drive to watch the moon move across the sky. We saw many out walking to places where they thought they would have a good view. After we came home, a neighbor joined me on the front driveway for moon watching and conversation.

  10. We walked down to the bay to watch but I didn't try to take pictures. I felt a bit silly standing in the cold when we could have seen this from our house but it was fun viewing it with others who were excited to see it. You got some great shots!

  13. Great shots. We were heavily overcast so it was out there somewhere, just couldn't see it.
