That's Why They Call It Fall

Because stuff falls. The sun is much more in a hurry to descend into the horizon. The temperature plummets.  And plants drop their finery.
A whole lot of stuff fell on Saturday when that big wind and rain storm moved through. The patio is littered with cedar tree droppings.
So is the driveway and front walk.  Because of the strong winds, the trees did not gently drop their spent greenery, but tossed it wildly into the air to fly everywhere.
The street and our gravel driveway are liberally seasoned with fir needles.
The broad leaf trees are just beginning to color up.  This falling will go on for weeks, and the clean up will be done over and over again.

There's lots more to come down out of those cedar trees too.
By the time the falling is done, even the spiders will have fallen away into holes.
We can call it Autumn, but to most of us, it's Fall.

  1. UGH! I'm not looking forward to the clean-up. Fortunately for us, our property backs on to the Umatilla River and the wind sweeps a lot of our leaves right into the river.

  2. I love your new header, just right for the fall season. Not to mention all those leaves on the ground. I just swooshed swooshed through some today, feeling like a kid again. :-)

  4. As beautiful as it is, you are correct in that it does demand a lot of attention!

  5. I was in a downtown workshop all day so I missed the storm. However, the cars in our driveway are covered with pine needles!

  6. Certainly a lot to be cleared up, but I think that is the beauty of the season.

  7. Nice play on words with fall. Yes, there's a lot of clean up work in the fall. I had all leaves picked up when we had a major windstorm yesterday, so I can clean up again.

  8. Oh my goodness! How did you know where to begin cleaning up all that small stuff. Your place is always so neat. I bet the mess did not stay there long.

  9. By some twist of luck the leaves that fall from the few trees in my yard get blown away in bursts of wind.

  10. The wind is your enemy but it is my friend. It always blows my leaves and debris magically somewhere else. Honest, I never know for sure where it ends up but it has to be in either the pasture in front or the one in back. Hope the cows like leaves.

  11. So much falls during this season. Being the lazy gardener I am, I usually go over the leaves with the mulching mower and call it good. Those that end up in the flower beds are left to rot in situ. Perhaps there's a reason that your garden always looks so much better than mine...
