It's Done

It took two days. Monday was boxing day. All of the decorations came down and were packed away. The tree was undercoated, all of the ornaments stored in their tubs, and the tree was dismantled and put back in its storage box.  All of the tubs were put back in the attic. Tom and I worked together, of course.

By Monday evening things were looking very bare.

Tuesday morning we cleaned. Then I began to replace the Santa collection with the pottery collection

and all of Tom's pop-up book collection is back on the shelves.
In the kitchen the Christmas garlands are gone and I hung up my collection of antique advertising utensils.
It's a very dismal day, dark, with steady light rain and 40°, a good day to be working inside.
The outdoor lights are still up, but now that the frost on the roof is gone, Tom will just need a break in the rain to get them down and stowed away.
After all of that was done, and since going for a walk was not a very attractive idea, I did ten miles on the stationary bike, while I finished a book on my Kindle.

Now the soup base is done for pozole for tonight's dinner, and tomorrow night's as well. Good comfort food for a dreary January day.

All is good.

  1. Wow, I'm super impressed. That was a lot of work and I suspect a lot of stair climbing. I believe it took more than two days to decorate. Must be faster coming down than going up.

  2. Today the tree's new storage bag arrives from Amazon and we can finally get the tree out of the living room! My un-decorating isn't half the job yours is, though. I'm off to google "pozole," which I need to recheck for correct spelling.

  3. The decorations were beautiful but doesn't it feel good to get everything back to normal! I really like your collection of antique utensils. Your home is beautiful!

  4. You have such a lovely home in any of its decor incarnations. I will take an hour today and put my Christmas decorations away for another year.

  5. Looks great! I woke yesterday morning to slippery streets and sidewalks. No fun at all until it got warmer. :-)

  6. I started undecorating today but I don't have lots of stuff to undo...we are leaving our little Christmas tree up because it's cheery. It's rainy here and dismal too. We miss our daily sunshine!

  7. I can't believe that you did it all so quickly, a great job.

  8. I don't get mine down that fast. I put it up slowly and take it down slowly.

I put up my decorations slowly and take them down slowly. What is your pottery collection. I collect McCoy which has really lost it's value but I really enjoy it.

  10. Well done. One reason I don't miss decorating because of my cat. The day after all the fancy has been removed can be a shock. Fortunately you have enough everyday stuff to make the transition easier.

  11. Good job and it looks so nice. I am taking the rest of my Christmas stuff down today. Will miss the lights in the living room. Will have to cook up a replacement.

  12. All done here too, and i just breathed a big sigh of relief that it's over! Several inches of snow here, and sunny skies, -10C, so it was great for walking!

  13. You were VERY productive. You must have a lot of storage to be able to take all of the pottery, and books, and utensils down and have a place to put them while Christmas is up. I don't have anyplace to store things these days.

You home looks so homey. I bet the pozole was good.

  14. I'm always impressed with the speed with which you do this. Working together must help speed things along a bit. Mine will start coming down after this coming Saturday's get together.
