Classy Glass

Where did this week go? Here it is Friday evening and I just remembered that I never posted about the glass flowers Irene and I designed last Sunday morning, when she was staying with us.

If I remember correctly Sunday morning was rainy. We spent some time in the garage workshop creating.

Here are Irene's glass flowers.
Irene likes to embellish her glass with a few "jewels". Grandpa got them all glued together this week, and they now have bud vases affixed to the backs so they can be slipped over bent re bar. The re bar has yet to be bent, but since we will have Irene here again tomorrow, she can urge Grandpa to get them done so she can plant them in her garden.
I designed several also.
Irene wasn't happy that I didn't let her have that iridescent dish on the bottom left, but since I bought it in an antique store for a bit more than I usually pay for thrift store glass, I called dibs.
Since our supply of glass was getting picked over, Thursday Tom and I made the rounds of more local thrift stores and restocked. Then we couldn't help but play with our new finds. There are now eight more glass flowers designed and waiting for the final inspection before they get glued up. We may have to go into business.

Other than playing with glass, the week was filled with exercise walking, working in the garden, two lunches out with friends, Isaac's cross country meet, and a trip to the dentist for a temporary crown when on Monday one of my teeth decided to crumble. Just another one of those aging pestilences.

Tomorrow, Saturday, we will have Irene with us for most of the day. We will take her with us when we visit Kubota Garden on a field trip with our garden group, followed by lunch out together. Then in the evening we have a Sounders game at the stadium. Sunday will be slower, only Irene's soccer game in the afternoon.

Life is busy. That's better than having nothing to do, or not being able to be busy, so we'll take it. Now I'll see if I can squeeze in time to read your blogs for the day. I just finally got today's paper read.

  1. I'm still working on today's paper. Love your glass flowers-that's something Caryn and I haven't tried doing and we're always going to thrift stores...

  2. Your glass flowers are very pretty. Look forward to seeing them in their homes in the garden. Your weeks are much busier than ours. Hope your day with Irene goes well and the Sounders win.

  3. How beautiful. Linda. Irene is so lucky to have a 'fun'. I also had so much fun with my Gkids. But now Kylee is 22 and busy working and horse stuff and the two younger boys are 16 and 17 are busy finishing school the oldest will graduate and then on to Everett CC to play football and the oldest Mike is almost 26 and working in Spokane as a Psychologist. He may return to get a higher degree at Eastern but now he loves his job. And he told me they love him too. He is such a charater. He worked for 2 (?) yrs in Eugene
Oregon---he seems to like working with children.---Good for him.

  6. I think you definitely could sell those glass flowers if you ever find yourself with some time on your hands. Maybe Irene could put some in her shop.

  11. Don't know if she does but Irene could put a price on those and sell them. She is really creative---she fell close to the tree.

  12. If you could please show what you mean by bending the rebar I'd appreciate it. I just might try my hand at one or two glass flowers and I like to stick things onto rebar in my garden but so far I've just done cups and saucers.
