Pretty Posies in Lovely Langely

We are back home in Seattle this evening.

We had planned to return sometime today, but the island was heating up and there is no shade in the afternoons at the cabin. We had lunch, cleaned up, packed up and we were out of there by 2:00. It was a very slow drive home through heavy traffic, but we made it by 5:00. Since then we have unpacked and put everything away, run a load of laundry, given the cat lots of love and attention, fixed salad and omelettes for supper, and after the sun left the yard, we watered pots, picked produce, deadheaded roses, and tidied up the patio. The downstairs of the house stayed cool all closed up, but the upstairs is hot. It was 90 here today.

Wednesday morning on the island we spent some time in the village of Langley, just strolling, enjoying the plantings and having coffee. Here's your tour:

Courtyard of The Inn at Langley.

Street pots

The view from the Boy and Dog Plaza.

 Pumpkins in a traffic island

Sparrows waiting for crumbs at Useless Bay Coffee Company where we enjoyed coffee in the courtyard.

Glass blowing studio in the old firehouse.
I think one of these snowmen is on my list when we come for our late fall visit.

Part of the plaza along re-developed Second Street.

We had a chat with this artist working in the alley outside the Whidbey Art Gallery, a cooperative of local artists.

This is a display of some of his work.

Look at those pink petunia baskets hanging off the back of Star Store.

Steps to the apartment over the book store.

After our morning in Langley, we spent a very lazy afternoon at the cabin, watched a 6:00 Sounders game on TV, and then went for a walk as the sun was setting.

We had a very good retreat to Whidbey Island.

  10. What a beautiful and well tended town. Truly only gardeners must live there. I have never seen a town so thoroughly decorated.

  11. I really need to get back to Whidbey Island for a visit, perhaps overnight or even for a few nights. And for a big plate of mussels. Thanks for sharing your beautiful pics of beautiful flowers.
