Back to Normal

Although "normal" might not be the correct word, at least the house is back to its pre-holiday state.

The Christmas decorations are all packed away, the house cleaning is done, and in the family room the pottery collection is back on the shelves.
This morning we did a little shopping and I bought two new house plants to put in a sunny spot in the family room, a fresh touch and a way to use my sunny yellow pottery.
The dining room is back to it usual state, although we will be opening up that table again on Sunday to celebrate Isaac's birthday.
Outside these windows the lower back yard is still full of frozen snow. It's supposed to begin to warm up over the weekend, and then we'll go from cold sunshine to slightly warmer but still cold rain.

With street shoulders and sidewalks still icy I have dusted off my stationary bike for exercising. I have done ten miles each of the last three days. The bike is in the garage where the temperature is between 50 and 55 most of the time, good for a work out without so much sweat.

January is always "Project Me" time. I had an appointment with my primary care doctor yesterday. All of my lab results are good. I got a referral to see an orthopedic doctor to assess my arthritis. The x-ray I had yesterday shows progression of deterioration in my right hip. While there's no stopping osteoarthritis, I want to know that I am doing the right things to hold it off as long as I can.

And yes, Doctor, my weight is up. That's my really big project!  But there is still too damn much candy in the house, and I really want to eat it!  Smaller servings, Linda, smaller portions, including chocolate!

But chocolate is my drug of choice, and I feel the need of its comfort as Inauguration Day draws nigh.

  2. Congrats on the good lab work. This winter has so far been difficult to just get out for a walk but it sounds like you have it solved. :-)

  3. I am going to the Women's March on Bellingham on the 21st. I am hoping the weather will be good, but I'll be there in any event. I wondered when I saw all those pictures of amazing desserts. I understand... but we need to care for ourselves most of all. Sending you good thoughts of healthy eating! :-)

  4. I've always loved those windows in your dining room. For the first time in my life I'm living with some chronic pain. I'm thinking it may be nerve pain. It's my left arm between my elbow and shoulder but not in either joint. I'm worn out by the end of the day. I have new appreciation for you and your mobility issues. Mr Trump remains a busy boy on Twitter during the wee hours of the morning. Today he called Chuck Shumer, senate minority leader, a 'clown.' This will be the first inauguration I've missed since they began televising them but I can't bring myself to watch this one.i feel like our country has been annexed into Trump enterprises.

  5. Yes, smaller servings is the way to go. I love chocolate too but my children got me some bars of very dark choc. for Christmas and I find I enjoy it less so I eat less but still feel I've had my hit of choc.

  6. I like that you reserve January for yourself. I hope that osteo slows down. I am close to osteo in my hips.

  7. Your home always looks lovely. I put away the last of Christmas this week AND filled two trash bags with clothing for Goodwill.

  8. Back to reality. The festivities were fun while they lasted but your home always looks cozy and inviting. I too need to take off a few holiday pounds over the next couple of months. Gotta get back to walking as soon as this big freeze is over.

  9. Good idea to bring in some new plants after all the decorations are gone. It would help to make the return to "normal" a bit easier as the comparison is always a bit shocking.
Good idea on the stationary bike. I have one in the house and a treadmill in the guest house which gets me through the slickery days. We got our first snow of the season last night. YES.

  10. Those indoor plants are lovely. Hope your arthritis doesn't get so bad that it hinders your enjoyment of life. Good luck and best wishes for 2017.

  11. I love the idea of bringing in some plants to replace the Christmas décor. Sadly I have put on some weight too over the holiday period, easy to put it on a lot harder to lose.

  12. 10 miles is a bunch! I do three a day on the bike since it is icy and we walk in the house to get in some steps. Your new plants look pretty in the yellow pottery:)

  13. I ate too much the last month or so too, and now I'm finding it is most definitely hard to stop. Your yellow pottery and plants in the bright sunshine is so cheerful.

  15. You have such a lovely home in any state of decoration.

What day drawing nigh now? Oh, yeah...I plan to wear black and keep all media outlets firmly turned off.

  16. Nothing like being shut up inside by weather to bring on chocolate cravings! Looking forward to a return to RAIN! The snow is lovely to look at, but a couple of hours of dripping followed by refreezing creates very hazardous walking/driving conditions. I'm definitely not a winter person!

  17. I like the view out your windows. There are a lot of challenges here for my loved ones. That is the reason for the poem. Michelle
