Schreiner's Iris Garden

Memorial Day began as a cloudy, cool morning, which was perfect for taking photos. And I took lots of them at our second stop on Monday, Schreiner's Iris Garden.

I have posted photos from this display garden before, about three years ago. It is in the Willamette Valley, north of Salem, and shows off the more than 500 named varieties of iris that are grown in the fields here compromising the nation's largest retail grower of iris.
While the irises are the stars here, they are set off by wonderful companion plantings of columbine, lupine, delphinium, geranium, allium, and more.

Several guest artists displayed their wares for sale.

Besides all of the lovely blooms here, there is an amazing variety of gorgeous cornus, or dogwood trees.

We move through a shrub lined corridor from one display garden to another.

We played If you were going to pick out one iris to buy, what would it be?

I enjoy watching artists in action.

The peonies are also blooming, and that gives you a clue as to where we went next.

  7. So many gorgeous iris. I'd want to bring lots home but they aren't fond of my crowded garden as they don't like a lot of competition. Absolutely stunning when in bloom but the rest of the year, meh.
