Seattle Is A Sports Town

All last week we watched baseball. Seattle was obsessed with baseball. The Seattle Mariners were playing Detroit in the American League playoffs. On Friday they won game 5 and advanced to the ALCS. ( American League Championship)  The victory caused an earthquake at the stadium. Really, it measured 3 on the Richter Scale.

That same evening the University of Washington Huskies played five miles away in their stadium and beat Rutgers.

On Saturday there were lots of college football games. I watched some. Unfortunately my other Oregon and Washington teams lost.

Saturday evening the Sounders played a home match against Salt Lake. Jill and Tom were there.

I watched at home. They won.

This morning the Seahawks played in Florida and beat the Jacksonville Jaguars.

After that was over we had lunch and then went for a walk. Now I am trying to get this post finished so I can watch the Mariners again as they start their playoff against the Toronto Blue Jays. There will be baseball all week again, or as long as the Mariners can hold out.

But just in case you don't care anything at all about sports, here is Tom working on one of his bonsai trees, which he's doing right now in the garage.

And this week I finally put my dried hydrangeas in vases. Here are some of them.

And there was at least one more bouquet of summer flowers left to be enjoyed on the kitchen table.

It's cold, 52, and spitting rain, but we'll be warm inside as we watch sports. It's time for more baseball.

  1. Hey, I think the raptors will surprise you or are the Rapters the basket ball team. You can tell that I don't follow sports. Oh know. It's the Blue Jays I'm supposed to be cheering for.

  2. I had no idea hydrangeas dried so beautifully. That's really impressive.
Art and our family in Chicago are really down in the dumps about the Cubbies.

  3. We only watch Hockey and the first game was last Friday night. Your hydrangeas are beautiful!

  4. That was a cute statistic: registering the cheering on the earthquake scale. Wonderful! Linda in Kansas

  5. I figured you watched them all. I was happy to see all the winning by our teams. I am not much of a sports fan but am glad I can be part of it all through you, friend.

  6. Of course, I'm cheering for the Blue Jays, but I know the Mariners did well in their games against the Jays. As a result, my expectations aren't high for the Blue Jays (or at least I tell myself that). In any event, it will be a good series.
The Seahawks are a favorite NFL team. Jon Ryan from here was the kicker for a few years and I started watching then. They had a really good showing.

  7. I love the picture of Tom and Jill. Your dried Hydrangeas are so pretty and arranged beautifully! I love that last flower arrangement too, especially the rich colors. Oh Linda, I was sorry to read about Jake's accident. It must have scared you to death. It sounds awful. I'm just glad it wasn't any worse. Hope he recovers quickly.

  8. I can hear my son-in-law and his mother upstairs groaning and cheering as those Seattle games go on. Unfortunately, Hawaii does not have any professional teams in any of the sports. Or maybe that is fortunate.

  9. By the way, I am so impressed with Tom's bonsai creating abilities.

  10. I have better take my hydrangeas inside before it’s too late. I am impressed by Tom skills in doing and growing bonsai!
Here we are having beautiful weather and cool temperatures for the season.

  11. Seattle really is a sports town. I almost can' t believe my son-in-law (from Seattle) - he will be flying up from here on Thursday and returning Sunday to go to a game. He did this last year, and he went to the Seattle Super Bowl playoff a few years ago (which they lost). To tell the truth I am a bit peeved that he is leaving his young family to go and experience the Seattle fever that I guess never goes away.
