It was a beautiful day Tuesday as I went out for my walk in the park after our Zoom meet up. Walking a mile is hard work, but it also makes me feel good.
It just so happened that son Jake was also out, on a vigorous bike ride, enjoying the morning, until he wasn't. I got a call in the early afternoon, "I need help". He was on a local bike path, going full speed, when he hit a bump he didn't see because of fallen leaves, went flying, and landed on his handle bars. I had him call 911 and by the time Tom caught up with him he was already being transported to the nearby hospital.
He's OK, not life threatening, but he has three cracked ribs, strained abdominal muscles, a partially collapsed lung, and scrapes and bruises. He lives with Jill and she is tending to him. She brought him home today to begin the painful healing process. Yes, walking for him will be hard too.
I have stuff from my many surgeries, so we brought over a bed wedge and a bed tray from our supply in the attic.
We visited him for a short time last night in the hospital. He is managing.
Tuesday afternoon, while I was listening to Mariners baseball, and trying not to worry about Jake, I decorated. Tom got the Autumn tub out of the attic and I set everything out, pretty much where they go every year.
I still have summer flowers. They'll soon be traded for dried hydrangeas.
The 120 year old pumpkin candy jars, from my mother-in-law's childhood, are still a treasured feature.
Today we went to a farmer's market, then dropped stuff off at Jill's. My exercise today was doing 30 minutes on my stationary bike. No crashes on that bike.
Does that look like rain? Nope, still not yet. Maybe this weekend we'll get some much needed rain. I should have gone for a walk, but I didn't have enough oomph. Walking is hard.
Sorry to hear about Jakes accident, good thing he is with Jill so she can keep an eye on him! Broken ribs can be so very painful. I have a hard time walking a mile also so I break it up throughout the day...lots of times I forget my phone is not in my pocket so I have to guess the mile:) Those antique Pumpkin Jars are very interesting!
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear about Jake. You can have a nasty fall on a bike . I hope he recovers quickly.
ReplyDeletePoor Jake! It was a really nasty fall! I hope he will get better soon. Here we don’t have much rain not as usual in Autumn and the weather is still warm in the afternoon for the season. I am going to to walk with my husband this weekend ( not easy) I understand you.
ReplyDeleteOuch! That sounds awful for Jake, but I'm glad he has someone to help him. You are doing great with your walking, Linda.Even if it's hard, you do it anyway.
ReplyDeleteOh goodness, poor Jake! Wishing him a speedy recovery.
ReplyDeleteYour autumn decor is lovely. Those candy jars look a wee bit frightening, but definitely a treasure.
I'm quite impressed you are continuing to keep moving...stopping would be worse.
Just a warning, Linda. Haiden Hayes must be a spam. I have a gazillion of this same comment on my blog. She's infecting lots of blogs.
ReplyDeleteOh gosh... I'm so sorry about Jake. That is a terrible worry. It's great that Jill is able to help take care of him. My son took a fall like that when he was in high school but he sure wasn't as injured as Jake was. I hope he's able to heal quickly.
ReplyDeleteHealing vibes to Jake. And congrats to your Mariners team!
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear about Jake's tumble. So good to hear you're keeping up with your walking. Staying moving is so important! Your decorating is wonderful as usual!
ReplyDeleteWalking may be difficult for us
