Underfoot

It rained last night, and it will rain tonight, and it will rain off and on for days to come, but this morning was a perfect day for a walk in the park.

I haven't been having much fun lately. Last week on Tuesday I had a root canal that was complicated and took almost two hours. Then my jaw has been sore for a week. Two days later I was back in the dentist chair to have my permanent crown put on that tooth. OK, done with that.
But no. Friday night I was using a gum massaging tool that the dentist gave me and off popped an old crown an the other side of my jaw.
I got an appointment for the next Tuesday morning, so I couldn't go with Tom and Jake to Whidbey Island for the day. At least at the dentist they were able to use the old crown - no complications.
On the way home I stopped at the store and bought myself a piece of chocolate mousse cake. I needed a treat.
Then after a late lunch, I went outside and cleaned off the patio.
As you can see this morning's walk featured gold underfoot. It was lovely, and I listened to my favorite John Denver music in my hearing aids as I walked my mile plus.

Tom said he had a job for me to do today but he couldn't remember what it was. Too bad.

I have mailed a card to my brother, who will be 75 next week, and have started the pork stewing that will be the base for pozole for dinner.

During the last week we have worked in the back yard. I cut the edges of the lawn and we both picked up. Today Tom is finishing up the island bed in the lawn. It's all looking very trim. Tom mowed/mulched the leaves on the lawn and they make a pretty mulch in the bed.

Wood is stacked in the garage for our first fire in the fireplace, the remedy for cold November rain.

I can chew on both sides of my mouth again! Things are looking up. And looking down there is lingering beauty all around.

  1. Teeth are such a pain in the you know what, mouth pain just makes a person cranky! Your carpet of leaves is ever so pretty!

  2. Your yard is always so beautiful, no matter the season or weather. I don't see how you can keep up with it. Tom and you amaze me. I empathize with you in so many ways. I just had a complicated root canal, the hygienist popped off an older crown when cleaning my teeth last week, I've been though joint replacements and more. If I got down on the ground like Tom does, you might as well plant me; I would NOT be able to get up. But as my favorite saying goes, "This, too, shall pass." It does and it did. I have a great life and can enjoy it as I know you do. Your blog puts a smile on my face every time I read it.

  4. The new header is lovely! All those leaves are pretty, but a lot of work.
Glad to hear the old crown was easily returned to its place. I'm not a fan of dentists and a root canal sounds horrid.

  5. For the past couple of years I have used Dr. Ellie's dental protocol of specific mouth rinses and toothpaste with sodium fluoride (Closys, Crest anti cavity, Listerine, and Act) and have had great results - and hardly any dental work. Phew! I was having to go in so often for root canal, crown replacements, etc. and one of the most dreaded appointments is with the dentist. I have the best root canal specialist - his state of the art machines make root canals fast and without pain. He explains my situation and has even talked me out of having a root canal - since it might not be necessary. I sure hope this is the last of your dental problems. It is such a relief to just have a minor cavity and cleaning.
My backyard almost looks like yours. After a heavy rain, tons of new branches and leaves on our mango tree erupted, and the new yellow soft leaves fell on the ground covering everywhere. I rake and the next day, more leaves fall.

    1. I use Crest anti-cavity and Listerine daily. I just have bad teeth, and a strong, mal-occluded bite. The luck of the genetic draw.

  7. My daughter is having a tooth problem and has to wait long for an appointment she has to take antibiotics. I hate to go to the dentist it is stressing and painful . You did a good job cleaning the garden here we have to clean the leaves they stick to our shoes and bring them everywhere. I agree for the chocolate after the painful dentist!
