President Barack Obama

As I type, Sen. McCain is graciously conceding the election. It happened so fast, and I was distracted this evening, so it is slowly sinking in. I'm not sure what I feel. There is affirmation that what I believed would happen actually did happen. There is hope that a President Obama can and will bring about change that we need, especially in the hearts of Americans, a people that have been riding a wave of selfishness, led in this by an administration that has set the example of taking care of yourself first, last and always. We need a new example, one of taking responsibility for one's actions, and reaching outward to find common ground with others in our nation who share common dreams. And we need a new image in the world, one of caring about the people, not just the power. Many of us feel anger over what has occurred over the last eight years. Some of us will call for revenge. But that will not be the tone our new president will take. He is a problem solver, one who will call for identifying what went wrong, and then finding ways to fix it. There will be an African American family in the White House. Hopefully that will help to heal some old divisions and wounds in our country. But it will not be automatic. There is work to be done, patience to be tested and held on to, forgiveness to be offered and accepted, enormous problems to be addressed and solutions to be found through working together. President Obama will face a tremendous task. We must help him.

  3. Barack is half African American, half Caucasian American, and he grew up in multi-cultural Hawaii. I'm looking to him to provide us with unity and hope in this country. I just wish his "Toots" could have been here to see it.

  5. Congratulations also from Austria! I like your post and your considerations.
There were public opinion polls in Austria and a majority would also have elected Obama too :)
It's a relief after that Bush area...

  8. I think John McCain's concession speech pointed to the caliber of man he is, and has been all along.

I am not a Bush fan,not by any stretch... but, he has had some good things happen in his administration. AND, we have been able to keep our country safe from additional attack. That required some steps that would of course be unpopular. But, we were able to sleep in safety. Let's not make mince meat out of the man. He's not the axis of evil that the media has tried to make him out to be. He's certainly been wrong about so, so many things. And careless. But... my fear is that Obama will also make mistakes, unpopular decisions, unwise choices on occasion. Please, tell me we can and will as a nation of people, stand by his position as our President and not rip him apart as has become the nature of the press, and all too often, the public. Public opinion can turn on a dime. Remember Bush's approval rating immediately after 9/11? Remember the 12% approval rating Nancy and the Congress had going into the campaigne process?
I am pleased to have a fresh opportunity for growth... I can see great possibilities, but Linda's words are wise. Her last paragraph and closing sentence should be posted on every refrigerator in America.

  9. Ah, yes, Caryn, President Bush is not evil, just inadequate for the job. The fact that I disagree with him politically is hard enough to put up with for eight years, but his lack of skill in the job, which came as no surprise to me, should be a warning that we should look beyond a pleasant personality, someone we would like to have coffee with, when we choose a leader of the free world. If a man has no substance before he takes office, how will he "grow" it when the job hits him over the head. Beware of kingmakers such as those who gave us GWB.
