Whidbey Island Play Time

We were finished with our cabin chores (see previous post) by about 11:00 Tuesday morning.  The weather was good, sunny and mild, as we headed to Langley to tour the town.

First stop, just outside of town, was the Chocolate Flower Farm.

 Owner/operator, gardener, candle maker, mail order clerk and one woman human dynamo, Marie Lincoln specializes in chocolate and chartreuse colored flowers and plants, as well as chocolate candles, chocolate raspberry jam, and other goodies.  Find her at chocolateflowerfarm.com.

On to Langley.  Strolling through this lovely village by the Sound is like going on another garden tour.  I go just for the plantings and the charm of the place.

 The historic Dog House is in transition, but hopefully it will soon rise again.  Next door is Marie's Lincoln's shop, The Garden Shed, where she sells her wares retail.  It's always a fun stop.

 We almost always make a coffee stop here at the Useless Bay Coffee Company, but this time were were headed for lunch nearby at the Braeburn.

 I had the grilled Brie, bacon and apple sandwich.  Delicious!

It's now 2:00, with lots of afternoon left.  We filled it well, as you'll see in the next post.

Working Trip to Whidbey

The window and slider door handles that Tom  ordered for the Whidbey Island cabin had come in to the store in Freeland, so it was time for a quick get away to get some work done there.  

We left Monday morning and caught the 11:00 ferry at Mukilteo.

 I don't know if this woman was catching anything, but her outfit certainly caught my attention.

 We got settled in the cabin, raised the flags, made lists, and had lunch, and then were off to Freeland to shop for our projects.  When we got back, the wind was suddenly quite fierce, and the sky was full of dramatic clouds.

 We delivered geraniums Tom propagated from cuttings to the cabin deck.

 Since the rain held off, I got the garden weeded.

 Tom secured the lagoon dock since the previous fittings had rusted out.  The nylon rope should last a few years.  

 After a trip back to Freeland to get the right length screws, Tom got the new door handles installed.

 Then he got the replacement window in.

 This morning we lifted out the three big sliders, cleaned the tracks and lubricated the rollers.

 Now they're working smoothly again.

 There were left overs from our Mother's Day dinner to warm up for our evening meal.  Yay!  No cooking!


After dinner I went for a walk on the beach, and up the beach road. 

 I got back to the cabin in time to grab my camera and watch the dramatic sunset.

Of course, it wasn't all work and no play.  I'll show you the playtime in the next post.
