Nehalem Bay Jetty

Our Thursday morning excursion was to the jetty at Nehalem Bay.
Red mentioned the empty beaches.  It is high summer so there were always folks about, but these are not resort beaches, so the number of visitors stays quite low.  And as you can tell, the weather was lovely, especially the mornings.  The wind can frequently come up strong in the afternoons, but after the first few days, even the winds were fairly calm.
This is a popular spot for building beach structures.  Irene is always intrigued by beach "forts".

If there is something to climb, then one must climb.
I got up just far enough to see the mouth of the Nehalem River, and then found a rock to perch on.

I could only imagine the force it took to deposit that stump on top of the jetty.
Looking back up river into the bay.
Low tide allowed for some sea life probing.  We actually found a couple of star fish.  Maybe there is hope that they will return.

From here, Jill began her three mile walk on the beach back to the cabin.  The kids played a while and then the rest of us drove back.
The kids settled into the cabin, on their electronic devices unfortunately.  I should have known when they disappeared upstairs for a "rest" and didn't come back down, that they were plugged in.

Tom and I had lunch and packed up, and by early afternoon we began the long drive back to Seattle.  Jill and the kids stayed until Saturday afternoon, but without their official photographer, their further adventures will remain unseen.  I hear they had fun, though.

  2. Well, I like great stretches of empty beach. There's so much to find. then the tide goes in and out and you see much more.

  3. Looks like a great outing. The winds certainly need to be strong to uproot a tree that size.

  8. The beaches in this area fascinate me. I never have lived by the ocean. I wish I could. The photos of the sea creatures are especially interesting. Good for Jill for walking back home. What could be better than a day exploring the beach?
