Another Day, Another Garden: The Chase Garden

The Chase Garden sits on a high plateau facing the Cascade Mountains with Mount Rainier as it's centerpiece. It was created by Ione and Emmott Chase over a period of 35 years. Ione is gone now, but Emmott, in his 90's, still lives in the Japanese style house on this beautiful property. The garden now belongs to The Garden Conservancy You approach the property through a wooded area. Trillium and other native forest wildflowers thrive in the undergrowth.

The "meadow" is carpeted with a rich tapestry of low, flowering plants.

Mossy rocks punctuate the ground covers. There is no other blue quite like Gentian blue.

The simple house blends well into the landscape.

The view from the house is centered on Mount Rainier, which was not quite visible today.

After visiting the Chase Garden, near Orting, we shopped for plants at Windmill Nursery in Sumner and Watson's in Puyallup. We came home with a trunk full of plants, most of which will go into planters. It's almost Mother's Day, and time to plant up those pots of summer color.

We have had a great garden and plant weekend away from home. Now we'll stay put for a while and work at home. We have some big projects to tackle.
