Deer Lagoon

A week ago, we spent three days at the cabin on Whidbey Island, where there are always wonderful photo ops. Earlier I posted our visit to the tulip fields, where we stopped on our way to the Island. I also posted the bird action on Useless Bay at low tide. The bay is across the street. But right behind the cabin is Deer Lagoon, where we can watch the action from the window. Old pilings just a few feet from the back yard are landing platforms. Today a Great Blue Heron perched and preened. One of the pilings has a hole that has been there for many years. A flicker has decided to refurbish it as a possible nesting sight. He/She worked at it each day.
The dike at the edge of the lagoon separates it from other wetlands and farm land. We took our usual walk one evening to see what we could see. This heron was fishing.
Gulp! Got one.
Rabbits have to keep a watch out for hawks and eagles. They scamper into the wild rose bushes.
I love the window through the branches of this madrona tree.
In the distance the cows seemed to be heading for the barn.
This area was recently re-channeled for better water flow into the lagoon.
There's always another road or path beckoning. But it was time to turn around.

  5. There are so many beautiful places. If I can't get to them all at least I can see them through the eyes of others. Thanks for taking us with you.

  6. I am loving this, Linda! I feel like I'm back in the northwest again. It feels wonderful to see all your gorgeous photos. It takes me back to what I saw and experienced just a few days ago.
