There was lots more digging last night, and all of the marshmallows but the one farthest back in the trap were gone. The raccoons may have outsmarted us. We'll keep trying.
I never would have guessed raccoons could do so much damage to a yard! I'll bet they've seen those traps before. I have ground moles that are doing a number in my dog's pen where its good hunting ground for earth worms.
I remember watching a television documentary about raccoons and their persistence in finding and obtaining food. They are quite clever in that regard. A raccoon broke through my sister's screen window and stole a loaf of bread. When they closed the kitchen window it came in through the bathroom window the next night. Now they close everything up tight each night.
I had some raccoon damage in the lawn and sprinkled 20 Mule Team Borax on the area. It isn't very harsh and they didn't continue. So maybe that would work for you. I don't know if there is something in the soil they like, I assume slugs or something. Anyway, worth a try. Phil, Eagle Bend, MN
