Soccer Season is Here!

The 2017 Major League Soccer season ended for the Seattle Sounders just a few months ago, in early December, when the Sounders played  Toronto for the MLS Cup. The Sounders lost that one, but did win the cup the year before, which qualified them to represent the the US as the top club in the country in the CONCACAF Champions League tournament. This is the region that includes North America, Central America and the Caribbean. Regions all over the world have tournaments where the top club from each nation competes, eventually ending in a club world cup. 

Anyway, last week the Sounders played Santa Tecla, the El Salvadorian top club, in El Salvador, and tonight was the second of the home and away matches. 

The score is an aggregate of the two matches, and the Sounders lost the first round 2-1, so they had some catching up to do.

Today was a beautiful day, sunny, dry, and the temps reached 50 by late in the afternoon. But when the sun goes down, it gets cold quickly. We bundled up in multiple layers to go to the stadium tonight. 

 Quite a few soccer fans made it out on a chilly work week night. The supporters group, ECS, presented an awesome overhead, "Climb Higher"

 The game was close, and scoreless at the half, but then the Sounders broke it open and won 4-0. They will move on to the quarter finals. We were comfy in our layers of warm clothes and thoroughly enjoyed the evening. 

 A full moon rose over the stadium as we made our way to the train. They say there might be an inch of snow in the morning. We'll see.

But we know that when we return to the stadium Sunday afternoon for the actual season opener, it will again be sunny and dry! Here we go, Sounders!
