Imagine
Today John Lennon would have been 70 years old. Imagine.
I love the Google logo video. "Imagine"
I just read the most disturbing article in the Seattle Times about yoga being demonic! I find that astonishing. Because the practices of yogic exercise and meditation have their roots in ancient Asian religion, religion that was not Christian (God forbid!) and therefore "pagan", the practice of any part of yoga is "demonic". Amazing what small minds can come up with. One can only 'Imagine' what's next.
The political verbiage flying through media now is outrageous. Real candidates who made it through the Republican primaries believe such things as that women should be required to give birth to their rapist's child, the HIV-AIDS "scare" was a hoax, radioactive waste is good for us in small amounts and should be sprinkled on the seas and the land to disperse it, but can assure us that they are not witches. Obama can be interchanged with Osama, climate change is just a ruse to limit free enterprise and gain more government control, we should give the unregulated power back to Wall Street bankers and hedge fund managers because it's really Obama's fault that our national debt has grown because he supported the bail out ( most of which has been paid back, and in the process prevented a depression and saved the auto industry), and the stimulus package ( which created jobs and provided infrastructure and is a problem only in that it wasn't big enough and is running out, so jobs are ending). "Obama Care" will ruin the economy and we need to let insurance companies charge what they want to and cover only who will make them more money, and so what if 30,000,000 more people can now get coverage, if it costs me a few dollars more, I don't want it. And oh, there's so much more! You can just Imagine.
John Lennon's song has been running through my head lately. It says so well what I would like to say:
Imagine there's no heaven,
It's easy if you try.
No hell below us,
Above us only sky.
Imagine all the people living for today.
Imagine there's no country.
It isn't hard to do.
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too.
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace.
Imagine no possessions.
I wonder if you can.
No need for greed or hunger,
A brotherhood of man.
Imagine all the people
Sharing in the world.
You may think I'm a dreamer,
But I'm not the only one.
I hope some day you'll join us
And the world will be as one.
Amen
Meditate on that.

The political rhetoric of many is simply garbage and too upsetting to ponder!
ReplyDeleteI had read that crap about yoga last week. What is wrong with these people????
I was not at all surprised to see Al Mohler was the source of the yoga demonic statement this go around. It never ceases to amaze me he is president of an academic institution. He makes me grind my teeth.
ReplyDeleteOh Linda....
ReplyDeleteWhere is this country going to? Thank goodness there are still sane people like you who brings to focus just how crazy this all is!
I get so tired when I hear all the garbage floating around. We could ignore it, but it's like aphids. If we don't keep trying to get rid of it, that hatred and stupidity will kill us all.
it's a crazy world out there and getting crazier. time to stay home and be safe. lol!
ReplyDeleteI suspect people have been nuts for a long time, but we didn't know it so often.
ReplyDeleteI think fear can result in believing all kinds of crazy things.
Oh Kay, your analogy is so perfect. If we don't keep fighting those bugs they'll suck all the juice right out of us!
ReplyDeleteGreat post, Linda, and I couldn't agree more with you, with Kay! This is beyond disgusting and unbelievable! What will they come up with next! Well, I'm going to strive for a good night's sleep in spite of all the crappy political rhetoric and just hope that we can all keep on fighting those bugs. Hope you have a great day tomorrow!

Linda. as an outsider looking in to the social side of the USA, through your eyes and not through movie and TV rubbish, I am pleased to see your common sense and logic just as strong and true as ever. Good also to read comments similar to yours by other US citizens. I mean this statement as a complement to you all. Ignore such rubbish. "Imagine" indeed! A wonderful aspiration. Regards, Dave
ReplyDeleteWhat lyrics would come out of John Lennon's mouth if he were alive today? "Imagine" rings true even now, 30 years after his murder...
ReplyDeleteI too get tired of what I read. It gets to the ridiculous, and playing on people's fears is what they're all about. Great post Linda!
ReplyDeleteI am just catching up on my usual blogs and missed this one yesterday. But it's still Happy Birthday to John, and I also wonder what he would have created in those thirty years he's been gone.
ReplyDeleteIt's one of the benefits of reading all my blogs to find like minded people who are rational and smart and articulate. Like you, Linda.
A great post Linda! I so agree with you. Oh great, I just ordered a Beginners Yoga DVD to help alleviate fibromyalgia pain...oh well! And I have always loved "Imagine"...more and more so as I get older, its seems to be even more bittersweet.
ReplyDeleteGreat post, indeed! Yoga as a path to paganism - ha! As an ex-yoga instructor, I have to laugh at that. Breeding fear is the key to their game, let's not forget, so it's just a scare tactic to remind people "who's boss". Ironic, since if they practice what they preach, they would know that they aren't the true boss at all.
ReplyDeleteLoved this post! "Imagine" has been floating through my head ever since reading it earlier today.
ReplyDeleteI've done yoga to one degree or another for years and never realized I've been cavorting with demons. Oh, my.
Yes, yes, yes!! Since power is the end all to politicians, it scares me to think that there isn't enough time to get things going in a positive direction...before the iniative gets rolling to oust the changes and the people trying to affect change.
ReplyDeleteI just had my credit card company call me for the first time to question one of my charges. It was to the Democratic National Committee. I've been trying not to Imagine that I'm the only one.
ReplyDeleteIt is awful and outrageous....love that particular song...
