Relief

It really, finally happened.

We have a new president. A man I can respect and trust.

Many are writing about the inauguration of Joe Biden, your impressions, your favorite parts.

We watched all of it. It was as J Lo was singing "This Land In My Land" that tears began to stream down my face. They were tears of relief. We had our country, our land, back. We had transitioned to a new president and without endangering anyone. Everyone was safe.

Joe Biden is a man who will tell the truth, who will put people first. Kamala Harris will be fun watch as she grows in power and stature. Her no nonsense approach will be welcome.

There is much talk of healing.

Healing can only happen if truth prevails. As long as people cling to conspiracy theories and warped takes on events and ascribe false motives to the actions of the new administration, there will not be healing.

I still hear it all around me, that mean spiritedness that refuses to believe in goodness of  motive. Those who feel wounded will only heal if they want to.

But it can happen. We can have hope. And we can make progress even as we try to bring others along.

There will be disagreements on policy. That's democracy. But let's give peace a chance.

  1. Absolutely, let's give peace a chance. However, you're also right that healing and democracy as well can only thrive if we can have the truth and all these terrible conspiracy websites would just go away.

  2. 4 years ago you were upset and I was relieved...now we switch positions. At least there are no protests like four years ago. We will have to see what happens. What I am seeing is people buying guns and ammo and many are very upset...others wonder with the pipelines shutting down what will happen to gasoline prices also affects heating for homes. Today gas in town was $2.29 and the last time I bought LP for heating it was $1.29 a gallon. So time will tell the story. I pray for the best out come for our country.

    1. Terra, you laughed? I probably didn't need to know that about you.

  6. The relief was actually physical. Sometimes when we carry angst around daily, we don't realize how heavy it was. Ahhh.

  7. The difference between what went on during the previous administration and what happens during this one is that the left leaning media won't report questionable actions.

    1. Oh, believe me, without Trump around to fill the news pages, they will be digging for whatever they can. Mistakes will be made by our new government. The free press will be doing its job.

  8. My BFF and I are on different sides-trying to reconcile isn't easy, but necessary for our country and our selves. RELIEF that was my feeling too as I watched.

  9. I cried many times on Wednesday, but they were always tears of happiness and relief. Now maybe we can get the Covid crisis under control!

  10. I too am relieved and overjoyed. And that stunning garden dress and coat Dr. Biden wore in the evening!

  11. I just LOVE how Dr. Fauci now feels free to tell the truth to the American public. It's about time he wasn't gagged.

I loved how Joe Biden was stopping to greet people on the short parade route. I really enjoyed seeing the affection between Joe and Jill. It's lovely to see kindness and love, instead of haughtiness and superiority.

  12. It was a gorgeous ceremony and very comforting and healing. You are so right that TRUTH is what matters and can save us. Barack Obama mentioned in an interview that there can be no compromising or collaborating between groups that have different sets of "facts." He saw that as one of our major problems and I agree. How to surmount it? I have no idea. :(
