Some Days Are Diamonds

You may know the song that goes, Some days are diamonds, some days are stone. Since John Denver sings it, it is one of my favorites, and I think of those words often

Thursday was a diamond. It doesn't take much to make me happy these days, just a little break from the ordinary.

The day dawned clear and just above freezing. We had no appointments or time constraints and we took our time getting going. I completed my five miles/30+ minutes on the stationary bike in the cold garage - no sweating that way. :-) Tom got a job finished outside.

Then we left the house! I know. I realized we don't get around much any more and I needed to. We dropped off a few things at Good Will, and looked around inside the store but found nothing we wanted. We went to Home Depot for some florescent tubes for the garage and some wire fencing to make new plant cages for the garden. I looked at plants.

Succulents are fun.

A few things ended up in my cart: Dahlia bulbs and a Spring color bowl. I'm rushing spring with that planter and it might still get snowed or hailed on, but I couldn't help myself.

Then, because the sun felt so warm through my layers of fleece, I wanted to be outside for a bit. We drove over to the Green River overlook just adjacent to the shopping center for a short stroll and a soak in sunshine.

I had time to blog and to read in the afternoon. Charlie the Borrowed Cat came to walk out to the mail box with me before getting his treat.

I kept dozing off over my book, so I surrendered to sleep for a little bit. Dinner was easy, making a salad to go with left over pasta. There were some shows we like to watch on TV in the evening.

A Good Day.

The flowers are now on the front porch where I can see them from the window.

It's dark and windy today but we had fun conversation this morning at breakfast and then got the weekly grocery shopping done. That was enough action for today.

Tomorrow we'll be up to watch the Seattle Sounders play a Club World Cup match in Morocco against the champion African team from Cairo. The Sounders are the North American club team champions. It's a big deal in the soccer world.

Go Sounders!

  1. Sounds like a perfect day to me. Those succulents are so pretty. Back in December when we had that terrible cold weather, most of my succulents were killed, even thought I had them in the little greenhouse with a heat lamp. You mentioned the Tillamook ice cream (on my blog), well, my sister and brother-in-law visited the Tillamook Dairy when they were in Oregon. I knew the name was familiar and it was from reading your blog posts. It really is delicious ice cream.

  2. People have to get out regularly and be active to keep in the game. Stay in and you're in trouble.
