A Dry Day

After complaining about the rain yesterday, it finally let up for the afternoon and all of today! We took advantage of the dry weather and the absence of grand kids to get some work done in the yard. Now after lots of trimming and clipping and staking and replanting, we're tired and achy, but it feels good. We've had to plant flower seeds and cucumber and zucchini seeds several times. This is the coldest, wettest spring in a long time. The crops in our little garden plot may be few and far between this year, but the slugs are happy.

  1. I feel your pain! When we came in late last night, we vowed to sleep until at least 9 this morning. Then the sun came in the slats in the blind over our bed at 6, and I peeked out to see clear blue skies, so we jumped out of bed and went to work. Sure feels good to get the garden weeded and lawns mowed.

  2. I leave the yard work to hubby. It's a never ending battle.

  3. well we are retired and the grounds crew does all the yardwork weekly for a small? lol fee. But when it's 106 degrees who wants to be outside?

  5. As Rosemary can attest to, gardening isn't something we HAVE to do, it's something we WANT to do. When it's in your blood, it's something you must do, if even on a very small scale. And being outside is what it's all about here in the Pacific Northwest!

  6. Yesterday was a wonderful day. Today looks like it's going to be a mix.

I regret not having a yard to work in in the Pacific Northwest. In Texas I had some lovely flower beds but it was so hard to to. It's so hard to keep plants alive during a hot Texas summer, and so miserable to be outside during the summers.

I often wonder what it would be like to garden in the Pacific Northwest. I'm sorry I missed that experience.

  8. I truly need to get some work done in the yard. As you mentioned--the rain. Yesterday was very nice--read that dry (mostly) but I had to go to Whidbey and be with my Mother so in the yard sense that day was shot and here today it is raining AGAIN.

I have no one graduating either. My oldest grandson is only in his first year at Eastern and then one a 10th grader and one in Middle school and one in grade school---and that's all folks. heehee MB

  9. Happy slugs are not my idea of a good crop.

  10. We have our 'container' veges planted and growing...tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, and this year we are giving sweet potatoes a shot! Half of the fun is watching the growth and the vegetables appear!

  11. We had heavy rains last weekend and then a few days of sunshine. I "seized the day" every chance I could and now today is back to rain. I do hope the sun remembers to come back out and soon!
