A Birthday, March Blooms, and More Soccer

When we went nursery touring last Wednesday I bought some primroses for the pots on the front porch, and I finally got them planted on Saturday.
It's looking like early spring along the front walk, with mini-daffodils and over-wintered primroses blooming.

Saturday evening we began Jill's birthday celebration by having a family dinner out at BJ's. She got a free dessert. Then the seven of us came back to our house for ice cream sundaes and visiting.
Sunday was Jill's 45th birthday. She had spent Saturday in the mountains, hiking, so she was ready to fill up on free birthday food. Jill has registered at Denny's, i Hop, Baskin & Robbins, Starbucks, Krispy Creme, and Red Robin, so on her birthday she can collect meals or items from each place. She makes a day of it. That's why we had to go out to dinner the day before.
Yes, she had two breakfasts, assorted goodies, and then dinner at Red Robin, with dessert! That little cherry pie in the middle? That was my contribution. I usually bake Jill a cherry pie instead of a cake since that's her favorite. I only had a few cherries in the freezer this year so I made a mini-pie. She said it was a good thing.
Jill did take time out from eating to go to the Sounders season opener. We were there two, of course. Earlier in the week we had been promised sunshine for Sunday, but it was cloudy, and at halftime the temperature dipped below 40 as a huge squall moved in, accompanied by lightning and thunder! At least it stayed dry for the March to the Match for Tom and me, and we all sit high and dry under the stadium roof now, having moved up from the exposed seats.

We expected sun and a win. Instead we got rain and a loss. But Jill went on to eat more, and I came home to watch the Oscars. that's another post.

  1. Rodger’s birthday is also March 4th. Suan’s birthday is in February, but Rodger, Naomi, and Caleb have March birthdays. I took them to eat at Copper River and got that birthday stuff out of the way in one event. Copper River makes unbelievably good stuffed salmon.

  3. That is some celebration. Jill is active so she can probably pull it off better than most. Beautiful photos of Jill and her kids.

  4. Your primroses look really great in the blue pots. Happy birthday Jill! Impressive that, despite the Sounders loss, Jill was able to eat more. She's a true champion.

  5. I am simply amazed at how much Jill seems to pack in and store it... where? Sorry about the Sounders loss. I saw it on the news and thought of you and Tom out there in the elements. :-)
