Winter Days

We had a dusting of snow last night. Now there's a bit of sun peeking through clouds, and the temps are hovering in the mid thirties. Hearty beef stew is on the menu for tonight. That's one thing I will achieve today. It's 10:30 already and I have achieved very little. I've read the paper, listened to radio news, called my mother, and read blogs. Well, I guess that's something. I started on another sewing project yesterday, a birthday dress for Irene. I'll get back to it a bit today. No hurry. I have until mid April, but I like to have things done ahead of schedule. I have been spending a lot of time exercising and thinking about food. I have been counting calories for a month now. Breakfast and lunch are easy, but coming up with dinners that keep me under my limit is a challenge. It's paying off though, as I am down about ten pounds, and my clothes are fitting better. I have a ways to go, one day at a time. The birds are eating well at and under our feeders outside the family room windows. Oh, I guess I can add photography to my list of what I've done so far today. Flicker Pine siskin and female house sparrow Pine Siskin Bewicks wren on suet
Oregon Junco
Tohee
Varied thrush
Red breasted nut hatch
Uncertain sparrow
Chestnut backed chickadee
OK, gotta' go get busy. and Tom is hovering, waiting for the computer.

  1. You get a much greater variety of birds at your feeders than I do.
I'm impressed at you calorie counting success, excellent, especially since your foot is limiting you ability to get out and exercise. I soon tire of the indoor machines.

  2. Big congratulations on losing weight. You're right, one day at a time.

I think you've been very busy today and I loved seeing the birds. I always need a refresher on birds in this part of the country.

  3. You actually lost 10 lbs in that short time frame???

I have lost six lbs since Jan 20 when my doc told me to lose 50 lbs. total. The goal is to lose 10 by April 23 when I see him again.

  4. Gigi, I'm using an online program called CalorieCount.com. I have to record everything I eat, which means I really have to think about ingredients when I cook, and the portion size. This awareness is allowing me to come close to my target of 1600 calories a day. This is combined with regular exercise, usually 40-45 minutes on a stationary bike at a high resistance setting, and my 25 minutes of physical therapy exercises.

  5. Congrats on your weight loss. You should be very proud of yourself. It looks like you are really on the right track and up for the challenge.

I'm also impressed both by your bird photos and your knowledge about the various birds that stopped by.

  6. great bird photos, you must be eating like a bird to have lost so much weight. i'm slowing putting it back on but fighting all the way but eating too. i seem to be hungrier than usual-need more protein and fibre. plus walking daily. i seem to do it every other day.

  8. I have lost six pounds but I'm now in Florida without my usual food to fall back on, here with my sister and her kids, plus my beautiful great niece. I'll keep you posted (smile) and hope to get a new one up pretty soon. Tired now, though, after that red eye.

  10. My biggest obstacle is feeling hungry. But sometimes I can't tell the difference between wanting something sweet in my mouth and actual hunger. I don't know what to do.
