Spring Really Is Coming

It was a beautiful sunny day, once the fog cleared.  During the foggy morning we enjoyed the company of friends at our regular Friday morning breakfast.

By the time we were home and ready to go to work, the sky was blue and the sun was shining brightly, gently warming the chilly air. Tom has been working outside in the yard as weather permits, but this was the first day I went back to gardening, after my winter hiatus.

All together we worked about four and a half hours each, interrupted by our lunch hour.  We got lots done and while we may be stiff and sore in the morning, it feels great!

We got the roses pruned, as well as the hardy fuchsias and a few other things.
The lawn got its first mowing.

The sword ferns, of which there are many, are all clipped.

And things are growing!

The miniature tete-a-tete daffodils are blooming, and the native red current is ready to burst into bloom.
The witch hazel show will soon be fading.
We have had a mild winter, so the hydrangeas are already budding out.
And tomorrow night we "Spring Ahead"!

  1. Oh my goodness it's clear you are a very happy camper. I'm excited for you. I also enjoy watching plants pushing their way up to the sun to give us their brightest blooms.

  2. You are definitely into SPRING! Wow! Gorgeous photos of a gorgeous garden! Thank you for the reminder of the time change. We don't change in Hawaii so I have to remember that it's now a 5 hour difference to Chicago.

  3. Wow, you certainly are springier than we are but it is getting close here also. What a lovely landscape you have.
Can relate to the sprung muscles. I have been working on my veggie garden and all I can say is "Ouch".

  5. Ah spring-how lovely it always returns-we have blossoms on our fruit trees and 80 degrees coming next weekend and even a rare rainstorm!

  6. Obviously you are both of the green thumb persuasion. Your garden is a true labor of love and it clearly shows.

  7. Nice green grass, Linda! Here in Hawaii, my yard/garden never changes. The same old colors year round. Lol. Enjoy the coming of spring!

  8. Your garden is a preview of what we have in store. I think you are a few weeks ahead of us. We've had a few sunny days this week and our trees are budding. We haven't mowed the lawn yet though, but we did turn the water back on now that the danger of freezing appears to be over.

  9. Time for me to come home! I knew it in my heart already, and have been ready for at least a week. However, have to wait for the folks to get ready. Looking like mid-April now so I'll miss the daffodils again. :(

  10. I'm glad that spring is coming for you Linda. Though we are in drought conditions here in the North Island of NZ and still getting hot sunny days around 28 degrees C (81F), we are anxiously awaiting rain and a proper autumn climate. We have had enough of the heat! I hope you get a nice spring and summer - Dave

  12. Oh Linda, it all looks so beautiful. I will have to live vicariously through your gardening this year. I really don't know if I will make it without my big flower beds this year. Yours are looking so beautiful already. I can't believe how green your grass is, and it is amazing that you are already mowing. We are still shoveling snow.
