Product Fail

In an attempt to deter the raccoon family from digging up our lawn, we invested $40 in two jugs of these granules.
I didn't have much hope but we had to give it a try, and bought enough to treat most of the lawn.

The first  morning after application, we saw only minimal digging, so we had some hope.  The second morning we found more sod dug up. By the third morning, the diggers had left quite a mess.

We're back to having fresh holes all over the lawn.

Here's a pretty little corner, but...
......if you look closely, the glass tower is smeared by muddy little raccoon paws.
We give up. We'll repair the damage and reseed areas after the fall rains begin.  The raccoons will have more places to dig once nature waters everywhere.

Next summer, when the varmints return, we may invest in Coyote Pee. It's available on line, for a hefty fee.  We'll see. :-)

  1. Ugh. I feel your pain and frustration. They dig in my grass too, but yours is much worse.

  2. Oh my, that's awful. Rodger doesn't have a nice yard so his can dig all they want. He also never waters his yard. Wonder if that has anything to do with whether they dig or not. Hope you find a solution.

  3. To see this much damage to a good lawn is disheartening. Raccoons seem to be hard to beat and they don't back down.

  7. Darn! I hope if you do find something (like coyote pee) that really helps deter them that you will share it here. They are so destructive.

  8. They do so much damage! I have to wonder how the job of collecting coyote pee is done? And who does it? That's not a booth I have ever seen at a career fair. Imagine meeting some one new: "So what do you do for a living?" "Me? Oh, I collect coyote pee for sale was pest repellent." Okay, I'll quit now.

  9. we have the same problem...it might be that you have grubs in your lawn that they are digging for. we treat the grubs yearly and it helps.

  12. That is awful. I sure hope the pee works--just hope it doesn't break in the mail like my peppermint did:)) If the pee doesn't work, give peppermint a try.

  13. I tried to comment on this earlier, but clicked on the Facebook link, and I guess my browser didn't recognize me or something. I have been following your fight with the raccoons, and have to say it might be a losing battle. Those little buggers are just too adaptable and figure out how to survive and stick with it. I love your sunflower picture at the top and your coyote pee poem is great!
