Love and Chocolate

Today is Valentine's Day, and I felt the need to make it feel special in some way.

It is a gray, cold and drippy day, the kind of day to be grateful for a warm comfortable home. But I did leave home to go grocery shopping, and then both of us went out in search of a few more goodies for a Valentine bag to leave for Jill and the kids. We also stopped by See's Chocolates, because we had a $20 gift card, and today seemed like the right time to gift each other.

As we were driving around, I couldn't help but think about how grateful I am to be with my husband of almost 49 years, to be in such an easy and comfortable and, yes, loving relationship with a man who is my best friend and partner in all things.

I got to thinking that our love is kind of like that box of chocolates we got today. The chocolate is dark, deep and rich, like enduring love. Some centers are smooth and sweet, some are a little hard to chew, some are just nutty, like the days of our lives. Being quite familiar with See's chocolates, we pretty much know what we're going to get when we bite into each. There are few surprises. They all just fit snugly and comfortable into their box, waiting to be enjoyed.

We all need joy and love in our lives. Those of us who are as fortunate as we are need to share that love with others. So many of you wonderful blog friends do a great job of that.

Thank you, and Happy Valentine's Day.

  6. I really like it when you step out of your garden and write some inspiring posts like this one. Yes, you are so fortunate to share your life with a partner who knows and loves you so much. I finally found my guy but it took a lot of trial and error. Twenty-five years later, we're going strong. :-)

  11. You and Tom are so beautiful together. Wow! It’ll be 50 next year. I’m wondering what you’ll both plan for that special day. Now you’ve got me wanting a box of Sees candy!
