Mother's Day

Our morning radio talk show hosts were asking, "Did you cheat this weekend?" They were referring, of course, so social distancing and limiting social gatherings.  I had to answer that "Yes, we did". But only a little bit.

Our son Jake joined us for the afternoon, and while I didn't hug him, we also did not stay six feet apart as we shared food and conversation. We are taking a chance on him.
The day was very warm, hot by our Seattle standards, and we moved with the shade. We shared grilled burgers, grilled asparagus, oven roasted potato wedges, and watermelon chunks at the umbrella table, and talked. When it was time for rhubarb pie and ice cream we moved under the cedar tree, and talked more. We are pretty sure we could solve a lot of our nation's problems if everyone would just listen to us. :-)

When he left four hours later he took with him the tomato plants his dad and grown and potted up for him, and a big chunk of pie. It was wonderful to have him here and spend time just with him.

It was a very good Mother's Day!

  2. I only left the house to water the garden and pull a few weeds. It was so hot (82 here) that I felt like a wilting hothouse flower. Gled you had such a wonderful Mother's Day. :-)

  3. I love your comment about the nation's problems being solved if they would listen to the two of you. Made me chuckle. What a nice day. I enjoyed my mother's day also. No fan fare, just gifts of gardening tools and a Zoom meeting.

  4. A wonderful day you had with son and good food. Both important. My daughter and grandson game over for a visit. Hadn't seen them since Thanksgiving. Too too long.
And this weather is way too hot for this time of year--don't you think?

  8. Some people are careful cheaters. Some aren't cheating at all. They just don't follow any rules at all.

  9. You had a lovely day with your son and perfect weather ( well, it could have been a bit cooler I guess).
All 5 of our kids and 2 grown grands came over and we sort of maintained distance. We hadn't all been together for months so that was fun. Now the weather is changing and my wind chimes are merrily chiming. I'm ready for a few cool days to catch up on inside chores. Have a great week.

  10. A nice day. I maintained a good social distance from my son and daughter -- more than 1500 miles worth. Sigh. A tiny cheat sounds much better.

  11. That's wonderful! We are being permitted a second family in our "bubble" so I too, spent some time with my daughter and grandson. As he is only 3 keeping socially distanced was a total failure but I made sure to change clothing when I got home and we all washed our hands frequently.

  12. My Mother met my Father when he moved from Nebraska to Seattle looking for work. They fell in love and then he moved to California. My grandmother wanted my Mother to go to Medical school but she wanted to be with the man she loved. So Grammie took her to California to see him and see if she really wanted to get married and that she did!!---Fast forward about 10 yrs and from Ca. we all move up to Seattle and my Father moves to Portland to go to school to become a doc. We move to Portland and after several years of him going to school and working nights and my Mother going to work also and us siblings being latchkey kids we move back to Seattle and more school. Well my parents decide it must be time for a vacation so off we go to the wilds of interior Vancouver Island and in the middle of the night my Father has a heart attack.---The rest is another story----We flack down a truck driver and he helps get us all to the town of Port Alberni where my Father was in the hospital for three days before he does die.

  13. Happy Mother's Day (only a little bit late). I didn't cheat, only because my son is on the other side of the country. I had a pretty lazy weekend, I barely got dressed to be honest.
