What A Difference A Year Makes

I guess we all know that 2020 is a whacky year. I didn't realize that our trees knew it too.

I mentioned in my last post that our maple trees are slow to color up this year. As long as we've had these lovely trees they have always been aglow by the last week in October.

This was last year on October 25th, 2019, in the front yard.

The Full Moon Maple, the dogwood, and the viburnum were all in color.
And yes, it was raining.

This is October 25th, 2020.

The Full Moon Maple is just getting a hint of color.
The viburnum, above, and the dogwood, below, are still green.

In the back yard, the maples and dogwood were also in full color in 2019.

This year, in 2020, they are still green.

Well, I see in the photo that there is a hint of color. The maple seeds are a pretty pink.

The good thing is we still have all of that beauty to look forward too.

But like so much this year, it is a little strange.

  1. Wow, that is an amazing difference. I wonder what Mother Nature has in store for us next.

    Take care, stay well.

  2. I do like those pink maple seeds. I never saw any like that before.

  3. I hadn't realized that trees were slower in developing their lovely colours this year but your pictures sure do show that they are.

  4. It is a huge difference, but like you said, you know we still have all that color to look forward to. :-)

  5. It is the strangest of years, for sure.

  6. They will do what they want to I guess. It's funny that the chlorophyll has stayed in the leaves to keep them green.

  7. It has definitely been strange this year!

  8. Almost all the leaves are down here. Our area is also a little confused due to the drought we had.

  9. Don't wish for cold weather too soon, we are getting it and it's way too soon for me. BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR! We went from tee shirts to coats and left the sweater season in the dust, LOL.
    Happy Autumn!
    Connie :)

  10. That is odd about the trees still being green. Seems like everything is different this year, and it scares me. So many strange things. This year in the garden there were no Japanese beetles, no squash bugs and for the first time ever, we had no problems with ticks. But, for the first time ever, we have had a mosquito problem and fleas!!
