Irene Is 16!

On Saturday we celebrated our granddaughter Irene's 16th birthday.

We joined Jill, Irene and Isaac at their house about noon, and the first thing we learned is that Irene already had her Driver's License!

She has been driving with  a learners Permit for a year, and has completed her drivers ed classes and tests. All she needed to do was turn 16. And now she has!

Jill has turned the mini van over to her. Irene can now drive herself to school and track practice, which starts in  person on Monday. Jill is thrilled. Her chauffeuring days are over.

Then we were off for a silly, fun time at Spring Fest at the state fair grounds in Puyallup. It was mostly a drive through event and we mostly drove around finding fair food to eat.

There was a shared Earthquake burger and brick of french fries for Jill and the kids, I had my fair favorite Crusty Pup, Tom found a yummy deli sandwich, and of course we had nutty ice cream bars on a stick.
There were a few animals to drive by and wave at, and I was kind of relating to a piggy by the way I was eating. :-)
The kids played some carnival games, and won some prizes.
Then Grandpa and I stayed in the shade - it was 80 degrees and hot for us - while Jill and the kids took a breezy ride.

Back at Jill's house we chilled as Isaac went to work, Jan joined us, and Jill cooked us a delicious birthday dinner followed with birthday pie.

And now I can finish the Sweet Sixteen photo album I have been working on, with photos from all of her 16 birthdays, including her  birth day. I gave it to her for her birthday and she loved it. There was cash too, of course. Teen kids do like cash best.

  1. She is a beautiful young woman. I wonder if she is going to be able to eat with abandon as her mother seems to, and still stays slim. Happy birthday, Irene! :-)

  2. Happy Birthday to your lovely Irene and congrats on the driver's license! Glad you enjoyed our fair. The nut covered ice cream is one of my favorite foods there. I'm hoping they're completely open in September. Although I've been many times (as an inhabitant of this city), it's all new to my Federal Way boyfriend. :)

  3. We went to the fair on Wednesday, and had crusty pups too (Nigel's favorite). We got out to watch the Dock Dogs, but didn't go on any rides. Happy Birthday to Irene, and congrats on getting her license!
