The P-I Is Dead...

How long live the Times?
Yesterday while we were gone the Seattle Post-Intelligencer published it's last edition. This morning when I did my daily walk to the paper box I found The Seattle Times in it's place. We figured this is what would happen, since the two papers have had a business agreement for a long time, with The Times supplying all of the business office support for both papers while the publishing was separate. Our subscription was just transferred.
We will miss some of the features of the P-I, but for now we still have a local paper. But for how long?

  1. Times are so changed. It surprises me for some reason each time I hear of one more paper going down. I don't know why it surprises me with all of the other businesses shutting their doors. I guess I somehow thought the newspapers would always survive....but the internet has helped them on their way out I suppose.

  3. I was sad to read about the PI. I can't imagine starting my day without the morning paper, and I'm hoping somehow, against all odds, this trend reverses.

  4. We heard about this in the evening news a couple of days ago and was saddened to see another newspaper close up shop. My common law daughter-in-law is an investigative reporter so it really is upsetting to see newspapers in trouble.

  5. We just lost the 150 year old Rocky Mountain News, Denver's first paper. The Denver Post is left.

  6. it was inevitable with the internet usage of instant news and then the economy just hastened the death of so many newspapers and magazines-but hopefully they will be online.

  7. But, there is something so nice about sitting down with the paper, and what about folks not on the net?
    I have a friend in Seattle who isn't online, and would anyway, prefer to be active and also read the paper.

    I think it might be a costly mistake, much like Coca Cola and its Taste Test change to the New Coke,, yuck, what a mistake that was.

    Of course they had to go back, how expensive would it be to get a paper started up again after closure? No, a new marketing approach is in order!!!

  8. So many papers including out own are gone...not like the good old days when we used to have a morning and a competing evening paper in Buffalo..
