Parade To The Beach

What a lovely start to a lovely day!

We were guests of Jill and the kids -Corey is working today, as usual :(  -at the Normandy Park Community Parade and follow up party at The Cove, a private beach owned by residents of Normandy Park.

Isaac was in the parade with his scout group.  We waited and waited and even walked up the street to find the parade.  But it was sunny, with a mild breeze, ad it was fun to watch everyone dressed in their versions of red, white and blue.
Finally the "stealth cop car" led with sirens bleeping.
There were the prerequisite old and classic cars, and fire engines, and of course, candy throwing.

We almost missed Isaac.  He's the one in front, grabbing for another handful of candy to throw.
And here he's blocked by a hat.  Oh well.  He hate to have his picture taken anyway.
These kids looked like they were having fun.
At The Cove, we had goodies, pop corn and ice cream, and hot dogs if you wanted.  We went for the ice cream first, and then the pop corn.

There were ducklings at the pond.
The ducks liked the pop corn.

We ventured out onto the beach.

Turning over shells or rocks usually reveals little shore crabs, so fun to find.

The party was to officially end at 1:00 so that the volunteers could get to their own celebrations.  As we left about 12:45 we passed the parking lot for decorated bikes.  Irene knows what she wants to do next year!
Tom and I came home to enjoy a leisurely lunch on the patio.  I considered doing some yard work, but laziness has set in. I might go for a short walk.

Then later this afternoon we will head to the Gig Harbor area, for a gathering at SIL Jan's house on Henderson Bay, where there will be friends and family, a picnic, and community fireworks from a barge.  Jill is excited to add to the show.  While fireworks are banned here in town, Gig Harbor still allows them, so she has purchased some to bring.  She was afraid she was going to miss out on blowing things up, and we will get the excitement of wondering if she will set her hair on fire this time.  So far, so good.

  1. I remember these times in our old neighborhood. I'm nervous about fireworks this evening. Our little dog gets so scared and shakes so hard I feel sorry for him.
