March Fourth

Our daughter Jill was born on March 4th, or March Forth, as Mr. Music Man called it on the JP Patches Show.  Marching around the clubhouse was a requirement on that day.

Forty years ago today she began to make her impact on our world.  Things haven't settled down since. She marches to her own drummer.  But now she's not just marching, she's flying.

Yes, she's going to fly off that bridge.  She "celebrated" yesterday by going bungee jumping.

Isaac and Irene anticipated what her reaction might be.

Canyon Creek, in the foothills east of Woodland, Washington, is a wild place.  White water kayakers were risking life and limb down below, wa-a-a-y down below.
Isaac was nervous, but Irene wanted to know all about it.
First jump (yes there was more than one!), gets a running start.
Corey was harnessed to the cable railing to get photos.
 There she goes.  Fly away!
After free falling, then swinging and bouncing back and forth under the bridge, she was reeled in.
Now for the backwards launch.  Am I really doing this?

One false start.  Corey was right there to capture the moment of sheer terror.

 Oh God!  OK, I'm good.

The kids look on through the safety of the grate.

 Yay Me!
It was a long day: a long drive, and long wait on the bridge, a long way back home.
But it was certainly memorable!
Happy Birthday, Jill!

  1. Ei think I'd skydive before I'd bungee jump! Looks like Jill loved the experience, though. Great way to commemorate her 40th. I remember seeing major bungee jumping in New Zealand.

  2. I've got a lot of skydives but no bungee jumps. I have jumped from a hot air balloon several times, but I have never been able to make myself go over backwards, because it's so scary! Congratulations, Jill, for that backwards launch!!! :-)

  3. Our son is 49 today, but I can tell you there's no way he'd go bungee jumping. I don't think there's anything Jill's afraid to try. As usual, she did good.

  9. Madame Canyon Creek,
    her life flowing along
    as usual,
    with some
    rocky parts
    protruding here and there,
    some kayakers
    insisting
    on discovering
    and getting to know her,
    just happened to look up
    at the bridge.

    Much coming and going,
    a lady in blue,
    with a red handle,
    lots of ropes and stuff
    binding her to home,
    but lo behold,
    she soared ,
    in mind and body,
    swinging through the air,
    fearless,
    but carrying with her
    the great support,
    love,
    and birthday wishes
    of so many.

    The creek,
    mesmerized
    and totally amazed,
    crashed
    in immense foam
    across some boulders,
    and her green tree hair
    on her banks,
    simply stood up
    in stunned wonder,
    amazed at the
    strength
    of a Jillian mind !

Happy birthday , Jill ! I I dont know you, but had to write this ) :-)

  12. Ugich,
Thanks for the wonderful poem. I am not great with words but I loved it!

I had wierd dreams/nightmares the 2 nights after the jump, but I think I might be ready to do it again! I get a discount the next time ;-)

Thanks to all for the kind words.
    Jill
