I was reading DJan's post today with her lovely photos of roses, and how walking among them helped her to not think about the plight of the world today. I composed a response that I later realized was in line with so many other of your posts I am reading, that I copied my comment as my post for the day.

Roses are so photogenic.
I spent more time than usual reading the paper yesterday and today. I have a better understanding of what has happened in Afghanistan over the last 20 years and why what is happening now is occurring. I am very worried for the women and girls and for those who were our allies that might not be able to get out.
Then there was the whole page of world disasters - fires, floods and earthquakes. I raised up a thank you to the powers that be for our safe and comfortable life here, at least so far. I'll be making donations to try to sooth my soul.
But I also petted my borrowed cat, who walked to get the paper with me this morning and returned for lunch on the patio and got a few licks of my yogurt - on his own plate. :-) I picked flowers and Charlie/Mewdini drank out of my flower vase before I could get it away to put the flowers in. The air coming in through my open window here as I type is cool and clear. These things make me happy.
Ah, lovely to read these words once again. It is hard to understand why our allies in Afghanistan were not taken care of. :-(
ReplyDeleteIt certainly is good to stop and smell the roses now. And yes, I agree we are lucky to be living here despite the pandemic when we see how the rest of the world is suffering.
ReplyDeleteNice ending sentence which was a surprise. It's tough to be optimistic these days.
ReplyDeleteThe whole world is a messy place right now. Sometimes it is the little things we should concentrate on...and those things we can do something about. I heard that Haiti did not get all the relief dollars from the last time they were in dire straights...must be something rotten in Denmark.
ReplyDeleteIt's always a good thing to stop and count our blessings.
ReplyDeleteThings are so dire all over the world that we need to be thankful for the things we do have and grateful for the things that are not directly affecting us. Like you, I will give where I can to help.
ReplyDeleteAgreed, we have much to be grateful for. For me, one of those things is the ability to give a little bit in aid of those who need it most.
ReplyDeleteEverything seems so messy right now. Afghanistan has been a mess throughout much of history. It's very tribal and I don't think any countries who have occupied it have understood its history or culture. I've found petting cats to be very therapeutic.
ReplyDeleteGood post - to be thankful for what we have. We can only pray that others may find gratitude wherever they are in their own personal way.
ReplyDeleteNo need to always focus on the negative and miss the positive they are both with us always...
ReplyDeleteI read DJanity too. She's inspirational. As this post of yours is. Sunday (my post last published), I tried to put forth some positives seen when I walked the chosen trail. We must learn to find MORE positives & beauty in our world these days. It helps our sanity at most.
ReplyDeleteHave a glorious day and stop to smell the roses if you can.
So true. We must all count our blessings.
