Current Events

I guess every post is "current events" in my life, some big, some small, a few occasionally interesting.

Because I have to have a photo, here's some color I enjoy as I walk down my driveway to get the paper in the morning and the mail in the late afternoon as darkness is falling.

No frost here yet and the Winter Jasmine is blooming.
Bright cotoneaster berries are cheery on dreary days.

I went to the dentist Monday. After having a permanent crown put in, my night guard didn't fit. After putting it off and putting up with discomfort, I finally went, not knowing if it could be fixed or I would have to spend tons of money for a new one. My dentist fixed it, and I was good to go, and relieved. No charge.

On Tuesday I went to the appointment that has been on my mind for a long time. I had my 6 month echocardiogram and then follow up with my cardiologist. I have been having symptoms caused by severe aortic valve stenosis. The verdict is that it is time for valve replacement. Referrals are being made and pre-op tests will be scheduled. The good news is that the modern technique of TAVR, transcatheter aortic valve replacement, is minimally invasive and has a short recovery time. Hopefully I am a candidate for it.

After we got back from the medical center and had lunch, we went for a walk, the first in quite a while. It felt good to move. Now if I could just get rid of the tendonitis in my surgical hip. I have given up on my back ever not being stiff again. I just keep moving the best I can.

After the walk, I went on line to find a photo card template that would accommodate the three photos I wanted to use. Success. Bartells will be sending them to me. Then I wrote my Christmas letter, the one I have been contemplating and making notes about for the last week. When the cards arrive we'll print up the letters and find some time this weekend to get them ready to mail.

Cookie baking continues. Dough is chilling in the fridge. This afternoon the kitchen will smell of hazel nuts and lemon. Yum.

That's what's current around here. I'll enjoy reading about your events as they appear on your blog or Facebook. Don't forget to have some fun!

  1. I do hope you will be a candidate for that less invasive procedure. It's always a little hard to be needing medical care during Covid, but I know you will take every precaution. And thanks for the bright colors in your pictures! :-)

  3. Wishing you all the best with the heart surgery.

Love the photos of the colors in your garden. So pretty, and so different from the gray and white out my window.

  5. Sounds serious but hopefully you'll be able to have the minimally invasive surgery and have a quick recovery.

  6. I chose to have my MRI for my back after Xmas in case of bad news! My back been very painful most of the time and walking is sometimes hard. I ‘ll keep some bad news for 2022! I hope your surgery goes very well and that your back and hip give you some relief! We also have a lot of COVID in our hospitals and it is risky to go there at the moment, better wait when the forth wave is going down.

  7. Do hope you are a candidate for the minimally invasive surgery. They are really getting good at surgery these days which is a blessing. Glad you are doing a Christmas letter this year. So many people didn't last year and I missed them. Got my first one yesterday and was happy people finally had things to write about. We are getting there.

  12. Oh boy I hope the surgery goes well for you! A bit scary but to the specialists it is an every day kind of procedure. I bet your kitchen smells wonderful with the cookie baking:)

  13. Oh gosh… I’m sorry for the pain and difficulties you are encountering now, Linda. Sigh… I’m afraid we have appointments to go to also this week and Art had a couple last week. These problems seem to happen quite a bit more as the years trudge on.
