Solstice!

It may be the shortest day of daylight of the year, but it certainly wasn't the darkest as I went out to get the newspaper this morning.

The weak winter sun has been working hard to burn through the fog but the sky is full of light as the blue peeks through.

Winter begins today, but even as it does, flowers bloom. It is never really the dead of winter here.

Happy Winter Solstice!

  1. Winter Solstice was much appreciated in Vermont -- not a nod to it here in Florida though. I will light candles instead of a bonfire (which would no doubt be taken for a book burning here).

  2. I love your foggy pictures. I dreamed about you the other night, and I was thrilled to learn than we were going to be neighbors. (Not in real ife, but definitely in my dreams.) Happy Solstice to one of my favorite friends.!

  3. Seems very different to have flowers blooming at this time of year. We're over the hump and onward to brighter times.

  4. Even here in Hawaii, I can really see how much shorter the days are. The funny thing is, I don't remember ever noticing it when I was growing up.

  5. It is all grey and dark here and we are having strong wind again.
I am staying home in my bed but I noticed this week that we had a few roses left. I like the picture with the fog very nice!

  6. Happy Solstice! Enjoy the flowers and thank you for sharing, since my neck of the woods is gray and blah at this time of year. We're have a brown/gray Christmas this year too with no snow.

  7. Happy Solstice! Indeed, it starts getting dark at 6:30 which makes it uncomfortable for me to drive. We are having Seattle weather here with rain - but it is still warm and the sun comes out and in.

  8. There are always flowers at your place. Thank you for stopping by. So glad to see the cookie bake (your last post) You still have the sweetest family. Jill has the most beautiful hair, doesn't she. Merry Christmas to you and Tom and all the family.

  10. Our foggy days were a few weeks ago and Christmas is coming with rain all day. Oh well, I am no longer young enough to want to play in the snow.
