Dresses For A Princess

My granddaughter Irene is three and a half. She is very into her inner princess, and loves to wear "beautiful" dresses, which mostly means full skirts she can twirl in. She lives on the plains in Colorado where the winters are cold. My assignment was to create a winter dress that was fit for a princess and that she could wear to preschool, which she attends four mornings a week.
I decided to go the route of pin wale corduroy, and searched the limited patterns available in both fabric and actual dress patterns. Here's what I came up with - a dress and a jumper. But, sh-h-h-h, don't tell Irene.
It's her Christmas present.

  1. Linda those dresses are adorable. I love pin wale corduroy....I made a pair of overalls for my daughter when she was little out of it. It was deep purple with little pink elephants.

  2. They certainly are adorable! When my kids were little I made all their clothes and it was such fun! I loved sewing and had a wonderful sewing room in our basement where the kids played and it was a great way to spend the long Montana winters when they were little.

  3. looks fun, I always wanted 5 little daughters but got 4 sons instead so never made any little dresses. I'm sure she'll love them both and especially since they were made by granny.

  4. I used to make dresses for my little girl, too. Your dresses are so adorable! That took a LOT of work and she's going to love them! She will be a princess in them. I still haven't bought my sewing machine yet. You're giving me motivation.

  6. These are beautiful. My favorite is the second one, but they are both lovely. I don't so. Therefore, I am in awe.
