Skywatch - It's Snowing!
As I post this it is 27 degrees and snowing here in south Seattle. The birds are lining up at the feeders for their turn.
We've been having below freezing weather with on again, off again snow since last Saturday night. It looks like we might have a white Christmas even!
For more Skywatch pics, go here.
Smoke in the Sky
Tragedy struck close to us and while our family was spared, our neighbors were not. Last Monday morning the recreational cabin across the street from ours on Sunlight Beach, Whidbey Island was destroyed by fire, and the two neighboring cabins were damaged, one heavily.
This news photo was taken from the dike on the lagoon. Our cabin is the brown two story in the left of the photo.
Here is the scene from a Seattle news chopper showing the action on the street. Our cabin is the brown one behind the yellow fire truck.
This was all too close for comfort for us, but very sad for our beach neighbors. Fortunately no one was in any of the cabins, so no one was injured.
And as you can see, we had snow at sea level.

ReplyDeleteOh my not a good effect, but you made a nice catch for Skywatch!!! Happy weekend! Mine's up too hope you can visit....
ReplyDeleteOh we have such cold temps down here in NorCal too.
ReplyDeleteBTW, I totally love your header photo.
How terrible about the fire! Happily you were spared.
ReplyDeleteSo glad you were spared the fire! How terrible for your neighbors! And we are having cold and snow, aren't we? I took photos of some seagulls down near the harbor and they looked reallypuzzled and annoyed with the snow. I love the birds in the tree in your photo! Really captures the gray, gray, gray!! Hope you have a lovely Holiday Season!
ReplyDeleteI am so glad your cabin was spared. Hopefully your neighbors have good insurance. Sad.
ReplyDeleteI saw the news about the fire and glad to hear you all were spared. Too bad about the neighbors though.
ReplyDeletePoor birdies in the snow. At least they know where their next meal is coming from. MB
Sad story about the fire.
ReplyDeleteGreat shot of the birds waiting their turn! They like you.
That really was close. Fire is a scary thing to deal with. I am it didn't spread more than it did.
ReplyDeleteI thought this was before your Skywatch post. Thanks for visiting my blog! We are getting more snow, too.
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear about the fire but I am glad that your home was spared from such a disaster. There is lots in life to be thankful for for sure.
ReplyDeleteYikes, Linda! That is too too scary. Thank goodness your place was spared. Looks like you've got awfully cold weather over there. Even the chickadees look cold.
ReplyDeleteI feel sad and sorry for your neighbours, and you too. Something like this can really put a damper on things. Hope it doesn't spoil Christmas for you.
ReplyDeleteToo bad about the fire.
ReplyDeleteThe birds in the snow make for a unique photo. Happy SWF.
Nice shots. An interesting set and Interesting stories. Great photos. Hope you get your White Christmas!
ReplyDeleteHoly Smokes! No pun intended. That is a major WHEW!! The fire looked close enough to cause some smoke damage in your home. Did it?
ReplyDeleteWhat a gut wrenching tragedy for your neighbors! It's so hard to see a friend go through something like that. You just don't know how to lesson their loss.
When we had a good friend lose their home, we contacted their family members and other friends and neighbors to gather photographs for them. We placed them in an album and tried in our meager way to give them some happy memories of their home and the good times shared there. We also gathered books that we knew were some of their favorites from used book stores and half.com. It's difficult to know how to help.
I thoroughly enjoyed the picture you captured of birds in stark winter branches. Lovely!!
I'm happy it wasn't your cabin Linda, but so sad for your neighbors. My husband's family cottage burned some years back after being in the family for years...it was very sad...
ReplyDeleteBoy, you guys are getting the snow! And a fire is always terrible to watch. We had one this fall in our neighborhood. So sad.
ReplyDeleteTake care and happy holidays. Got to stop chatting and get a million little things done for Christmas. Joann
