Oh Christmas Tree, Oh Christmas Tree, How Laden Are Your Branches!

With all of the other decorating just about finished, it was time to tackle the tree. Yesterday we spent the early part of the day at an arts and crafts show in Gig Harbor, so I was tried when I got home and was happy to sit and catch up on e-mail and watch the second half of the Seahawks game. Turns out that was the good half to watch, as they came from a half-time deficit of 0-14 to win 31-14! And then we got out the big, heavy box that holds our tree. This tree is at least 15 years old, and must be assembled branch by branch. Sunday we got it put together. And we got the lights and tinsel garlands on. This morning put the ornaments on. Now this is no simple task, because there are 40 years of memories on this tree, and so we sort of do it in sections. (click to enlarge) There is the section of horses and pigs, from the many years when Jill collected horses and Jake collected pigs. Here are just a few.
There is a very special little section devoted to some handmade ornaments from the kids preschool days.
Another section has treasures collected on our travels.
There's a section for gardening and nature,
and lots of birds.
And a Santa section, too.
Interspersed are homemade felt ornaments I made a long time ago, gifts students gave us, and various assorted this and that's.
It's a glorious jumble of Christmas memories.

  1. And the culmination of wonderful memories and treasures! What a beautiful tree! I saw it on FB while I was trying to see the new FB layout. Some friends already have it, I don't.

  2. Very beautiful! It's a good thing the tree has so many branches, because you have so many ornaments.

  3. Linda, that tree is gorgeous, but on the work it takes to put it up, and you won't even be there for Christmas.

Perhaps you're like my sister-in-law who puts a tree up no matter what. She says she puts it up for herself because she loves Christmas trees and she enjoys it whether there's anyone around or not.

  5. Linda, that is exactly right. I'm just like your sister. It wouldn't be the holiday season without our tree! And while it is a lot of work, it is so much fun to see all of the ornaments again and remember how and when we got them.

  8. This is a beautiful tree. I like the way you have the tree decorated in sections. I don't put up a lot of the old decorations, but the way you have incorporated it all is a really great idea.

  13. Wow! I am really, really impressed, Linda. I should have known you'd have a spectacular tree. I thought I had a lot of ornaments, but you've got twice what I do and they all look so pretty on that beautiful tree.

  14. That is one drop-dead gorgeous tree, and what a lot of time and thought you put into decorating its various sections. The final results are worth all of your work though, for sure.

I suppose we need to unpack and assemble our tree soon.

  15. Your Christmas tree is simply stunning Linda. My poor tree looks like a branch that fell off of a tree...I love all of the different ornament sections, it must be delightful to unpack the ornaments and recall the memories from ornament. I have purchased an ornament each year for each child and hopefully one day they will take them home to place on their own trees.

  16. That is a beautiful tree, Linda, full of wonderful memories.
We didn't put up the big tree this year, we won't be home for Christmas and we are not hosting the neighborhood party this year. I just put up a table top tree and a few of the home made ornaments.
