BENCHMARK!

Minus 40 pounds and counting.

Last January I was resolved to get my various maladies under control.  I had already medicated myself with naproxan to settle down all the the arthritis hot spots, and was doing my stretching exercises daily.  I was seeing a podiatrist for the never ending plantar fasciitis, and was wearing a night splint.  I had seen an orthopedic specialist for my back, and was keeping the spondylolistheies symptoms under control.

I knew there was one more thing I could do for myself.  It was time to get serious about losing weight.

Through another blogger I learned about an on line calorie counting program. I signed up and started recording everything I ate.  I am still doing that whenever I am at home.  I do spend a lot of time thinking about food, planning meals I can eat and share with Tom, making sure I have the right foods in the house, and not the wrong ones.

In March I got a referral to a Group Health orthopedic specialist, Dr. Walker, (don't you love the name for a foot doc!) who gave me more heel stretching exercises to do.  I have done those too.  I checked back with Dr. Walker the first of July and was told " Continue the stretching and the weight loss".

It's up to me to heal myself, obviously.  Am so I'm continuing to work on it.  I set myself 10 pound benchmarks.  I've reached four.  Now on to the next.

The foot pain?  Oh, it's still there, but I can walk a lot longer and farther now before the pain hits since I'm packing much less of me around.

  1. Good luck on the weight loss Linda. I have been keeping a record of everything I eat and it is the only way I can lose weight, which has been 9 lbs. so far. It has been an up and a down thing up to now but I know if I lose this ruddy weight I will feel a whole lot better with the aches and pains, and that is spurring me on. I hope your health issues will be a whole lot better too.

  5. You should really be proud of yourself. I hear you on the part about taking care of the maladies. During the school year, I gained weight again. I am being very careful now and following weight watchers plan. I'm losing and brought down my A1C levels, so I must keep it up. You provide great inspiration.
