A Big Project Finished

Our garden deck lasted over thirty years, but it was rotting and unsafe and needed to be replaced.  Tom studied many options before finally deciding to rebuild it as it was, but using composite or synthetic materials this time.

He got started with the demolition in early April when it was cold and often rainy.
The trellis that supports the 30+ year old wisteria had been rebuilt a few years ago, so it was staying, but had to be propped and worked around as the old decking came out.
We missed some good weather while the materials were on order, so of course it was cold and rainy when Jake came for two days to help with the stringers and to get the trellis uprights tied into the new under structure. The composite decking requires a lot closer spacing of the stringer supports.

That turned out to be a very tricky task, and as a result, the uprights aren't quite perpendicular.

That could really bug me if I let it, but I'm not letting it.  The results are too wonderful to let that bother me.
The decking went down quickly once the hard stuff was done.

Tom scrubbed the teak furniture and moved the bonsai benches and pots onto the deck this week.

It's all done and all ready for enjoying the blooming of the wisteria, just in time for Mother's Day.
