November Snow

The sun has just broken through the scattered clouds this Monday morning. We will soon put on our layers and head out for our walk. It is still only 36 degrees out there, but the snow is melting and the dripping is no longer from the wet snow and rain falling.

It snowed all day Sunday, but the temperature never got quite to freezing, so the snow did not stick around much. I did go out with my camera about 3:30 yesterday as the snow was letting up to take a few photos.

Snow is pretty. It emphasizes textures and patters, and it contrasts nicely with the colored leaves still on the trees and shrubs.

One set of tire tracks in the driveway. Tom got home from Isaac's soccer match just after the heaviest snowfall. I stayed home.

The wet snow turned to ice crystals that coated the branches.

The hydrangeas will probably go brown after this.

The birds had to tuck their heads under their wings, the poor things.

We are hoping to return to milder, more normal temperatures for a while, but it looks like cold rain will return later in the week. Ugh.

Time to get out and walk while we can.

  1. Double ugh! It looks like it will show up again just in time for our Thursday hike. Love the pretty snow pictures, though. I'm trying to stay positive! :-)

  2. While your photos are beautiful I am not ready for winter snow. Every year I look forward to it less and less.

  3. Snow IS so beautiful, especially as dusting on your wonderful trees.

Our daughter's flight from Honolulu to Seattle was delayed yesterday because of snow. She and her fiance left Hawaii's hot and sunny weather to return to their home in Seattle's snow. Whenever she leaves, it is as if she takes the air out of the house and leaves such a void of noisy laughter and activity. Ah well, she is happy in Seattle. Maybe one day I will visit her.

  4. You got more snow than we did! I didn't realize your driveway was so long. No wonder you have lots of room for all the lovely shrubs and flowers I see in Summer.

  5. The snow helps to show the fall colors off. I'm surprised you'd get this much snow.

  10. It snowed here but we didn't have the accumulation you did, it all melted as soon as it fell. Your pictures are beautiful but, like you, I'm hoping for warmer temperatures to return.

  11. You got as much snow as we did here in the hinterlands I think. It was amazing to see all the colorful leaves still on full display and to see snow on top of them. I love your leaf pictures and a small interval of snow is okay with me. But a few days satisfies any need I have for winter.
