It took me a while, with Tom's help, to get geared up, but I just had to get outside on this snowy morning. So with warm layers under my old Gortex coat, rain/snow pants, and high top boots, I was ready to tread cautiously into the deeper than expected snow. My official measurement is 7 inches.
Our first task was to make our way out to the street to get the newspaper. Two days ago this cotoneaster was full of beautiful red berries. Today the robins have stripped it completely.
Tom used a broom to rescue a few shrubs from being bent over, but the snow was very light and mostly just sifted down to the ground.
We still have our bird feeders up and the birds are flitting everywhere.
One very early, shivering Viburnum flower.
The other viburnum buds wear sparkly hats.
The sun dial is not telling time today.
The daffodils were looking almost ready to bloom. Now they'll wait.
The intrepid snow stomper.
The quail, usually earth bound, are now snowbound as well. The tracks show that Charlie the Borrowed Cat found his way to the food begging station.
Snow on moss on the Stewartia tree.
Yep, I plowed my way down the path to the deck too.
The deck, which is mostly solid, shows how the fine snow sifted through the cracks.
Yep, Charlie was here, and yes, he did get some treats.
Fortunately he did not cross paths with the birds.
It was great to be able to get out in the snowy yard. Now it's hours later and it's still snowing. I hope we get another pretty day before it turns to rain.
Enjoy your snow! It looks warm there! Have fun and stay warm!
ReplyDeleteThat quail photo is a real winner. In fact, all these snow pictures are just beautiful, but I am very glad I live down here where I can be warm, but then the summers are much much too warm in southern California.
ReplyDeleteThat was a major snowfall but it gave you all kinds of opportunities for excellent photos. Apparently the west coast is in for another wallop of winter. I'm not sure if it gets south far enough so that you get in on it.
ReplyDeleteIt sure is pretty. You got a lot more snow than we did but it's still coming down. Lightly but if it keeps up all night... Good thing this is a long weekend so no one has to drive until Tuesday by which time we hope it will be gone.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos and it must have felt great to get out and enjoy the fresh air and beauty all around you.
ReplyDeleteNow that is a legitimate snow--just beautiful. So glad you could get out in it and get such great pictures. We have something similar coming tonight and tomorrow. Can't wait.
ReplyDeletewow, what a change-we usually get one day of snow but none yet. it's been 65 which is warm and lovely. glad you could get out and take photos to share with us...stay warm
ReplyDeletePretty winter wonderland!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your brave adventure. I am so glad you were not afraid to get out. Your yard shows beautifully how much effort you both put into it...all those good bones show in the snow.
ReplyDeleteVery pretty! Good on you for getting out in it. Your recovery is obviously going very well.
ReplyDeleteYour pictures really captured the wonder of new snow. Good for you for getting out there and enjoying it.
ReplyDeleteLots of snow here too(8-10 inches), and very picturesque. Now I'm ready for it to go away! Makes for hard walking.
ReplyDeleteYour garden looks glorious in the snow. Our snow hasn't melted from the last 6" we had. Now they are predicting 7 - 14" If that truly happens it will be the biggest snow in years no doubt. Crazy weathers. Good to see you out and about. Just walking up your drive would be a good workout in this snow. Keep warm.
ReplyDeleteSo very pretty! I love all your "hats" and other beautiful scenes. We have a good bit here, but nothing like seeing your garden turned magical like this. Happy Valentine's Day to you and Tom! :-)
ReplyDeleteYou are lucky! It is so beautiful. Glad you could go out in the snow, but it must be pretty cold
ReplyDeleteThese are amazing snow pictures! Simply beautiful! I love the pictures of you in the snow too. If all the rain we've had in the last few days had been snow, it would look like that here.
ReplyDeleteThis is so beautiful, Linda. My daughter has shown me some rather shocking pictures of snow in her Chicago area. Unfortunately, they are getting quite a bit of roof damage with ice damming.
