Lakewood Garden Tour, Part 2

The home and garden of Karen and Bob Colleran sits on a one acre property which was in early 1900's covered with Garry Oaks and fir trees. The house was built in 1917. The Collerans began gardening here in 1975. They left the Garry Oaks but removed many of the fir trees to provide more light and over time planted a wide variety of trees, shrubs, grasses, bulbs, and perennials to provide four seasons of color, interest, and texture.

It is that color and texture that attracts the eye as you wander through this garden, full of delightful, sometimes whimsical plantings and features.

We visited this garden once before, but it was in late summer. What a treat is was to see it in the lushness of May.

Very concrete fashions.
The vegetable garden is just getting started.
Can you see why they call this May apple?

The old Garry Oaks still rise above it all.

Thank you, Bob and Karen, for once again welcoming us to your little paradise.

  3. They've covered it all. They've used up all the space. It must take a long time to go through this garden.

  4. Beautiful! I love all the various surprises amongst the plantings. My fave is the shoes/purse with the little seat and cushion, but the sink comes in a close second.

    Thanks for sharing your visit.

  7. This is a beautiful garden, full of different plants, so nice and interesting. There are two gardens I would like to visit again , Giverny and another one full of rhododendrons but we have to make online reservations and there are so many people who wants to go there! I am not making hay nobody is interested...

  8. With so much to see, it looks way bigger than one acre. I love the shed with the blue morning glory, and I love the greenhouse! Very Beautiful...all of it!

  9. Cleaning up the weedy old gravel patch is just a start. then people have to have a vision of what they would like the weedy old gravel patch to become. These people obviously could make things happen. Thanks for giving us look.
